Google For Beginners – 22nd Edition, 2025

Google’s tools reach well beyond the search box. This illustrated beginner’s manual offers a guided introduction to the services many people use every day, starting with a Google account and moving through search, Chrome, Gmail, Calendar and Maps. The clear, step-by-step approach is designed to make the first steps less daunting and help readers find their way around core features.

Start with a secure Google account

The opening section explains account setup and introduces security and privacy controls. It also covers account recovery, signed-in devices and the options for reviewing or managing personal information and saved data.

Search smarter and get comfortable with Chrome

Readers are shown ways to refine Google searches, use specialised search features, create Google Alerts and personalise Google Trends. The Chrome chapters cover browser customisation, syncing, the Web Store, plug-ins, autofill and practical tips for everyday browsing.

Make everyday Google services easier to use

The Gmail section explores customisation, spam, conversations, tasks and scheduled messages. Later chapters introduce Google Calendar and Google Maps, including route planning and Street View. Taken together, these topics offer a useful orientation to several familiar Google services rather than focusing on just one app.

A straightforward guide for new users

With its illustrated tutorials and plain-English explanations, this edition is suited to readers who want a guided introduction to Google’s apps and account features. Google changes its interfaces over time, so some screen details may differ from what readers currently see.
