Coding and Programming Tricks & Tips — 19th Edition (2024)

Batch files, Linux setup, Bash scripts, Python and C++ all have a place in this hands-on programming guide. The 19th edition of Coding and Programming Tricks & Tips moves from Windows scripting fundamentals to Linux coding and compact project ideas, giving curious learners several practical routes into writing and understanding code.

Start with Windows batch files

The opening section introduces Windows 10 batch files: what they are, how to work with them, and how to use commands, variables, loops and repetition. A small batch-file game puts those building blocks into a more playful context, while the explanations also touch on safe handling of scripts.

Set up Linux and begin scripting

From comparing Linux distributions to installing Linux on a PC or in a virtual environment, the Linux material covers both preparation and first steps. A sequence of Bash-script lessons and a command-line quick reference provide a useful bridge from setup to writing commands of your own.

Ideas to turn into small projects 💡

The project section looks at planning code, finding resources, creating a loading screen and developing a text adventure. It also explores retro coding and text animations—approachable prompts for readers who want to make programming visible and interactive.

Spot common beginner mistakes

Dedicated pages consider mistakes beginners may encounter in Python and C++, alongside broader advice on coding pitfalls. These sections complement the tutorials by encouraging readers to notice where errors arise, not just follow steps to a result.

A varied guide for curious coders

With material spanning Windows scripting, Linux, Bash, Python and C++, this issue is suited to readers who want to sample several coding approaches in one place. Its contents are organized into distinct topics, so you can follow a section from start to finish or turn to the subject that interests you most.
