Linux Format Annual 2026 Volume 9

Linux Format Annual 2026 Volume 9 brings together a year’s worth of Linux features and practical tutorials in one varied collection. From ethical security testing and home-network protection to Raspberry Pi builds, desktop Linux, and open-source AI, its pages connect the everyday pleasure of tinkering with the bigger questions around privacy and technology.

Make Linux work in more places

Explore Linux distributions and the systems behind them, with features on Mint 22, Ubuntu 25.04, Fedora, display servers, and moving an older PC away from Windows 10. The range makes room for both practical choices and the ideas that shape the Linux desktop.

Security, privacy, and a safer home network

The annual takes an explicitly ethical approach to security topics, introducing tools and techniques for examining systems under your control. Other features turn to VPN privacy, password storage with KeePassXC, home firewalls, and the security challenges associated with AI-enabled computers.

Projects for the curious

Hands-on coverage reaches well beyond the desktop: find Raspberry Pi projects, home automation with Home Assistant and Zigbee, 3D printing, podcasting, Steam Deck game recording, and a guide to editing photos with GIMP 3.0. There are also creative coding and music-making topics, including building a word game and working with MuseScore.

Linux with room to experiment

With its combination of explainers, software features, and project-led tutorials, this annual suits Linux users who like to understand what is happening under the hood—and then put that knowledge to use. Browse it for a particular challenge or follow the contents wherever your curiosity leads. 💻
