Computeractive Issue 711: 4–17 June 2025

AI chatbots, Windows alternatives, online privacy and everyday tech decisions take centre stage in Computeractive Issue 711. This issue pairs a head-to-head look at popular AI assistants with practical advice and accessible coverage for readers who want to make more confident use of their computers, phones and connected devices.

ChatGPT and its rivals, put to the test

The cover feature compares ChatGPT with other leading chatbots, including Google Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot. It asks a useful question for anyone trying to choose an AI assistant: which tools give the most helpful answers? The issue also offers a wider spread of AI tips, including advice on viewing a library of AI-generated images.

What comes after Windows 10?

With Windows 10 support ending, the magazine weighs up whether switching to Linux could be a sensible option. Elsewhere, readers will find practical Windows and Office tips, along with advice on extended Office support.

Practical help for everyday technology

The workshops and tips cover efficient charging for phones and laptops, creating a newsletter in Scribus, setting up separate Firefox profiles and blocking specific page elements in Brave. The issue also looks at finding out whether personal information is circulating on the dark web, and includes reader questions and troubleshooting guidance.

News, reviews and consumer coverage

Alongside its how-to articles, Issue 711 reports on technology and security developments and reviews a range of devices, including an Apple iPad, laptops, a mini PC, printer, phone, speaker and streaming stick. The result is a varied issue for readers who like practical computer advice as well as a considered look at the latest consumer tech.
