Learn Microsoft Azure: Build, manage, and scale cloud applications using the Azure ecosystem

Learning Azure is easier when its many services are seen as parts of one working cloud platform. Mohamed Wali’s Learn Microsoft Azure builds that foundation step by step, moving from cloud-computing basics into storage, networking, virtual machines, web apps, and databases.

Start with the Azure landscape

The opening chapters introduce public, private, and hybrid cloud models, Azure regions and subscriptions, and the portal used to manage resources. Wali also explains the Azure Resource Manager model and introduces automation through Azure PowerShell and the Azure CLI. This gives new learners useful context before they begin working through individual services.

Connect the core infrastructure

Storage, virtual networks, and virtual machines form a substantial part of the book. Readers encounter storage accounts and services, replication and performance options, VNets and subnets, public IPs, and VM disks and networking. Seeing these topics alongside one another helps clarify how Azure resources fit together when building a cloud environment.

Move from infrastructure to applications

Chapters on Azure Web Apps and App Service cover plans, deployment slots, application settings, scaling, and backup. The Azure SQL Database material introduces database options and service tiers, with attention to the distinction between managed platform services and SQL running on virtual machines.

A guided learning format

Chapter summaries, questions, and further-reading sections give readers points to review as they progress. The book is intended for administrators, cloud engineers, and developers beginning to work with Azure, and its broad survey can also help readers organize their understanding of the platform’s main building blocks.

Published in 2018, this is an introduction to Azure as it was presented at that time; readers should check current Microsoft documentation when applying service instructions in a live environment.
