Apache OFBiz Cookbook

Practical Apache OFBiz guidance, chapter by chapter

Apache OFBiz Cookbook takes a task-based approach to a powerful open-source enterprise framework. Instead of lingering on abstract theory, Ruth Hoffman organizes the material as recipes that help readers get things done: setting up OFBiz, writing Java-based extensions, building user interfaces, working with services, shaping entity models, and handling security concerns.

The result is a reference that suits hands-on development work. Each section builds around common OFBiz workflows, from installation and environment setup through the framework’s core application layers. If you are trying to understand how OFBiz pieces fit together in real projects, the cookbook format makes it easier to jump directly to the problem you need to solve.

What the book covers

• Getting started with project code, installation checks, and development setup
• Java development for OFBiz events, services, logging, and request handling
• User interface work with Screen widgets, FreeMarker, forms, menus, and HTML output
• Service definitions, service groups, event condition actions, and Groovy services
• Entity engine work, including databases, models, and view-entities
• Security topics such as user accounts, access control, SSL certificates, and login protections
• WebTools and web services for maintenance, data handling, and integration

Why it stands out

The book’s recipe structure is especially useful when you need a focused reminder or a practical starting point. Rather than forcing you to read linearly, it lets you move through OFBiz one problem at a time. That makes it a handy companion for developers, implementers, and technical teams working with Apache OFBiz in day-to-day production or customization work.

For readers who want a working reference

If you prefer a book that feels like a technical workshop companion rather than a broad survey, this title fits that role well. It is geared toward readers who already know they need to work inside OFBiz and want clear, task-oriented guidance to help them move forward.
