Three workshops, one connected research landscape

The collection is organized around the workshops that contributed its papers: the Web of Things for Humans (WoT4H), Semantics and the Web for Transport (Sem4Tra), and Knowledge Discovery on the Web (KDWEB). Together, they examine how Web technologies can support connected services, make information more useful across domains, and improve the way digital systems are designed and applied.

Connected devices and human interaction

The WoT4H papers consider subjects including personal data stored through a phone, geolocation for managing collective transport in stations and airports, service discovery between Web of Things applications, and real-time interactions described with W3C Thing Description. These contributions place interoperability and practical interactions among smart devices at the center of the discussion.

Web technologies for transport

The Sem4Tra section turns to mobility and travel information. Its papers address route personalization using regions of interest, linked open data for bicycle parking, and prototyping a client-side route planner for Helsinki using routable tiles and linked connections. For readers interested in transport systems, the papers show several ways semantic and Web technologies can be brought to mobility challenges.

Knowledge discovery and software processes

The KDWEB contribution examines standardization of the software-testing process based on workflow. Alongside the other workshop papers, it extends the volume’s reach from connected applications and transport data to methods for structuring software engineering work.
