Proceedings of ISMCO 2020
The Second International Symposium on Mathematical and Computational Oncology brought together mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers, data scientists, and clinical oncologists to examine how advanced models can inform cancer research and patient-specific treatment. This volume collects the full and short papers accepted for presentation at ISMCO 2020, held virtually from October 8–10, 2020.
Where Mathematics Meets Cancer Research
Across the proceedings, the focus is on the growing role of mathematical and computational methods in understanding malignancy and improving therapeutic strategies. The contributions reflect an interdisciplinary exchange: rigorous modeling, computational analysis, and clinical questions are treated as connected parts of one research problem rather than separate specialties.
Inside the Symposium
The ISMCO 2020 program included six keynote presentations, five oral sessions, two poster sessions, two panel discussions, one tutorial, and one workshop. From 28 submissions, 12 were accepted for oral presentation and 10 for poster presentation. This Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics volume contains the full and short papers accepted for presentation; abstracts from the meeting appeared in a separate online volume published by Frontiers.
Who Will Find It Useful
The proceedings are intended for researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of mathematics, computation, and oncology. Mathematicians, bioinformaticians, computational biologists, data scientists, engineers, and clinical oncologists will find material relevant to modeling, analysis, and the development of patient-specific approaches. Graduate students and advanced undergraduates exploring mathematical oncology may also use the volume to understand the scope of current research.
About the Editors
George Bebis, Max Alekseyev, Heyrim Cho, Jana Gevertz, and Maria Rodriguez Martinez edited this volume. Their affiliations include the University of Nevada Reno, George Washington University, the University of California Riverside, The College of New Jersey, and IBM Research – Zurich, reflecting the interdisciplinary character of the symposium.
Publication Context
Published by Springer Nature Switzerland AG in 2020 as volume 12508 of Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics, a subseries of Lecture Notes in Computer Science, the book documents a meeting designed to strengthen connections among the mathematical, physical, computational, and clinical sciences.
