Raspberry Pi Annual Volume 12

Turn a Raspberry Pi into a Weekend Project Machine 💡

The Raspberry Pi has a way of turning a spare afternoon into something useful: a camera booth, a streaming stick, a home-security monitor, or a tiny retro games console. Raspberry Pi Annual Volume 12 collects that maker spirit into one 132-page 2025 annual from Future Publishing. It is written for people who want to do more with the board they already own—and for anyone still deciding which Pi project to try first.

Compiled by Aiden Dalby and Steve Dacombe, this volume mixes hardware advice, software setup, and step-by-step builds. The result is a practical companion rather than a dry manual.

What’s Inside Volume 12 ⚙️

The annual opens with the current Pi landscape and moves quickly into hands-on territory. You’ll find guidance on the Raspberry Pi 5, the Raspberry Pi 4 desktop kit, and the Debug Probe, followed by projects and tutorials for getting files across from a PC, tuning performance, building custom embedded Linux images, and controlling a Pi remotely.

• Maker projects and winter project ideas
• Streaming, camera, and media builds
• Network monitoring, VPN, and router projects
• Home security, sensors, and automation
• Retro computing and Minecraft on the Pi

Cameras, Media, and Streaming Projects 📷

Several chapters focus on visual and media work: building a streaming stick, streaming live to YouTube with a Pi camera, creating stop-motion animation, recording video with motion detection, making a camera booth, and setting up a digital photo frame or portable bodycam. These projects show how the Pi can move beyond the desk and into creative, everyday use.

Networking, Security, and Home Automation

For readers interested in connected systems, Volume 12 covers turning a Pi into a router, protecting identity with a VPN, monitoring a network, using PoE and Picade X HAT hardware, sharing data from remote sensors, and building a home security system. There are also ideas for space-station alerts, motion-controlled fans, and wireless printing.

Retro Gaming and Minecraft on Raspberry Pi 🎮

The closing sections look at emulation and play. Readers can explore emulating the Atari ST, building a Raspberry Pi Minecraft console, modding Minecraft, and working through 20 Raspberry Pi hacking projects. It is a reminder that the same small board can be a learning tool, a media centre, and a games machine.

Who Will Get the Most from This Annual

This volume suits Raspberry Pi owners who enjoy project-led learning, students and hobbyists building confidence with electronics and Linux, and makers looking for fresh ideas. Beginners will find approachable starting points, while more experienced users can jump into networking, embedded images, and custom builds. If you like clear instructions, practical inspiration, and the satisfaction of making something work, this annual is aimed at you.

Why It Earns a Place on the Shelf

Raspberry Pi Annual Volume 12 balances buying advice, setup help, and creative projects in a single edition. It does not assume you are an expert, but it also does not stay at the blinking-LED stage. That range makes it a useful reference for anyone who wants their Pi to earn its keep.

Add it to your Digital Delights collection and keep a batch of Pi ideas ready for the next free weekend.
