In the summer of 1870, John Singer Sargent traveled through Switzerland with his parents and two sisters. Rubin, a research associate at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, studied the two albums and reconstructed the original order of their pages. The project also used unpublished letters written by Sargent’s father, Dr. FitzWilliam Sargent, to trace the family’s Alpine itinerary.
