LibreOffice Expert 2023/24 Edition

LibreOffice has more to offer than the familiar basics of writing a document or filling in a spreadsheet. This special issue brings together practical tutorials on its core applications and thoughtful explorations of the features, file standards, and community behind the open-source office suite.

Across 100 pages, readers can move from everyday tasks in Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base, and Math to subjects such as macros, templates, extensions, digital signatures, and OpenDocument files. The result is a broad, hands-on look at LibreOffice for newcomers and users ready to explore beyond their usual routines.

Get to Know the Whole Suite

The issue introduces LibreOffice’s main tools: Writer for word processing, Calc for spreadsheets, Impress for presentations, Draw for vector-based graphics and diagrams, Base for databases, and Math for formulas. An introductory article also discusses the suite’s background and installation across Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Make Everyday Work More Efficient

Practical coverage ranges from Writer styles and Calc charts to templates, extensions, and macros. Articles on advanced search, tips and tricks, and lesser-known features offer readers ways to explore functions they may not encounter in routine use.

Look Beneath the Document

LibreOffice’s open standards receive attention too. The issue examines the OpenDocument Format and explains how XML relates to the contents of ODF files. Other topics include digital signatures, Writer typography, and the LibreOffice community.

A Useful Read for LibreOffice Users

New users can use the application tutorials as an introduction, while more experienced readers may appreciate the deeper dives into automation, document formats, and lesser-known capabilities. If you want a clearer sense of what LibreOffice can do—and how its tools fit together—this special issue offers plenty of places to start.
