Book Overview
Art Forms in Nature is a collection of one hundred lithographic plates by the German biologist and philosopher Ernst Heinrich Haeckel (1834–1919). The plates were originally issued in ten portfolios between 1899 and 1904, then gathered into book form in 1904. Haeckel made careful drawings of deep-sea and microscopic life, including the one-celled marine animals called radiolarians. Adolf Giltsch provided the artistic finish and lithographic reproduction for Haeckel’s original drawings.
This Dover edition, published in 1974, contains all the plates from the original German work. The lengthy scientific text has been replaced with a Publisher’s Note and brief captions that reflect current classification practice.
