Draw 62 Animals and Make Them Cute
Step-by-Step Drawing for Characters and Personality *For Artists, Cartoonists, and Doodlers
When I began this book assignment, I felt like I had drawn many animals, but I soon realized that there were many I had never previously tried drawing. To understand an animal’s physical characteristics and habitats, I do research before I start drawing, and I recommend you do the same. A quick online search or reference book will do the trick. Inevitably, this research helps me not only to achieve a likeness to the animal, but also to imagine what kind of personality one might have. For example, I was already familiar with the name “chinchilla,” but I had no idea what one looked like. I soon discovered that a chinchilla looks like a cute, fluffy mouse!
Use this book as a guide and reference to develop your own animal characters.
On the left-hand page of each animal spread, follow along with the step-by-step guide to drawing the basic animal form. Concentrate on the main geometric shapes that combine to make the figure. Then add identifying features such as ears, arms, or feet. Lastly, fill in the facial attributes that bring the character to life.
After you master the basic drawing of the animal, use the right-hand page to inspire further drawings of the creature in various poses, with various expressions, or engaging in particular activities.
There are spaces throughout the book for you to draw, or you can work on separate sheets of paper or in a drawing pad or sketchbook. Tips are sprinkled throughout to give you creative ideas and technique suggestions.

Cutest Animal Drawing Book Ever!!!
I love this artist! I’ve been following her on Instagram for years and I love all of the places her main character, Mr. Fox, goes. You need to check out her illustrations…they are so adorable! @HEE_COOKINGDIARY This book shows you step by step how to make all of her cute characters. It’s great for artists of all ages.

This is a great, fun book for artists of any skill level!
This book is great for a hobbyist artist or even a professional who wants to add simple likability to their characters. The drawings are fun, funny, and likable. I go through the drawing exercises with my kids and we all have a great time, but I’m also an artist by profession (game industry & illustration) and I find my cartooning skills have improved since using the book. A+, highly recommended!

great for all ages
Super cute and fun. Addictive. I use this for teaching k-8 art, and I also enjoy the drawing as well!

Adorable drawings of cartoon animals. I wish there had been more snippets of advice.
This book is full of cartoon animals that are adorable just to look at even if you never plan to draw them. For the first cartoon of each animal in this book, the author shows in a stepwise fashion how to draw the final image. I was slightly misled by the “and make them cute” part of the title into thinking that a bunch more cute-making details would be added on to the original drawing as additional steps that readers could follow. In fact, the “cute’ part consists of several more entirely different final images of the same animal drawn in a cuter manner–but lacking any stepwise instruction. In a number of instances the cuter animals are so different in pose or angle that it would be impossible to use any of the original guidelines to draw them, so basically you probably aren’t going to learn to draw the cuter creatures from this book. I enjoyed just looking at the talented author’s drawings and not worrying about replicating any. There were occasional little guidelines in the step-by-step section giving advice on how to achieve the overall effect of fur, feathers, etc. Some similar advice would have been helpful in explaining in general terms what makes us find something cute, so that readers wanting to invent their own original cute-animal characters might develop the tools to draw them. Instead, we are treated to a gallery of undeniably adorable creatures, including some unlikely candidates for cuteness–who knew a narwhal could be so cute? Thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for an advance digital review copy of this book.

Helpful for Illustrators
This book is the cutest! Itâs simple enough for children to follow but also helpful for a professional illustrator in need of inspiration. I love it.

Cuteness Overload!
Draw 62 Animals and Make Them Cute is much more than your usual assortment of animals to draw as there are some unusual ones, such as a wombat, tapir, chinchilla, mole, sloth, weasel, etc. With 62 animals to choose from, I am sure you will find plenty you like and that are worthy of drawing. For each animal, Kim provides step-by-step tutorials and then approximately 5-8 variations to make them cute and give them some personality. Some of these additional versions are so sweet and adorable that itâs just fun to look at them. Cute variations include different poses, varying expressions, some dialogue or thoughts, different accessories, and a variety of actions such as eating, dancing, standing, reading, etc. You can learn a lot just by looking at the cute versions â seeing how these different poses are drawn as well as other patterns, textures, and design elements. They are sure to inspire you with drawing that animal or to use with some of the other 61 animals. I loved how Kim uses different kinds of lines and patterns within one animal as well as in the different variations, such as in the case of the armadillo. Some of my favorite cute variations included the hippo dancing, the sheep knitting, a turtle lifting weights, and a fox on a scooter. Note that while Kim does not provide step-by-step tutorials on the cute variations, once you have mastered the particular animal, it will just involve some tweaking and practice to get the other version right. After all, it wonât be like starting the other version from scratch.Kim gives useful tips throughout the book â for example, how to draw fur, add personality, exaggerate anatomy, etc. With 62 animals and roughly 6 cute variations, thereâs over 400 drawings to keep you busy and to practice in order to improve your drawing skills. I definitely recommend this book and plan to purchase it as soon as it becomes available.Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group â Quarry Books and NetGalley for an advance reader copy that expires in exchange for my honest review.

Really cute line drawn animal tutorials
Draw 62 Animals and Make Them Cute is a tutorial doodle-art/drawing guide by Heegyun Kim. Released 26th March 2019 by Quarto on their Quarry imprint, it’s 128 pages and available in paperback format.I’m a huge fan of drawing tutorial books and collect them like crazy despite not being (in my own estimation) gifted artistically. This makes me especially appreciative of art books and techniques suited to beginning artists. This little book is exactly as described. There are step by step tutorials for 62 different animals with different variations and poses for each one. There is a ‘you try it’ balloon on each page for reader drawings. This would make a great gift for would-be artists of all ages. The included animal tutorials are varied and eclectic with appearances from alpacas (see cover) to pufferfish and capybaras. There is no additional introductory technique or materials instruction; the book just includes the 62 animals. There is a complete table of contents, so locating individual animals shouldn’t be problematic. The tutorials are slanted toward line drawings, though colored pens, crayons, and watercolors could certainly be used to enhance the line drawings.Cute book, accessible for everyone.Five stars.Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
