Rev. Dr. Who –
Nifty Little Tablet
This is a nifty little tablet to supplement folks already tied into the Android infrastructure, but could use another device to do some of the more simple tasks. Maybe you use Plex for your media and you need a device to connect to your bluetooth speakers to enjoy your own mp3 library. Maybe you have security cameras that use an Android app. I would suggest this tablet as an extension to the stuff you already do, but not a replacement for a phone or primary tablet. It’s got 4GB or RAM plus using 4GB of storage for RAM. While you can add a MicroSD card, the Play store doesn’t advise you install apps to SD card anymore, so you’ll want to choose wisely on what apps you can fit on the remaining 60GB. I wouldn’t use this for gaming personally, beyond solitaire or word games. But there’s plenty you can do on a tablet like this, and in the current price range, makes it a very attractive addition to however you’re currently using Android. The operating system is a fairly barebones version of Android. I couldn’t find any bloatware beyond Google apps. It’s very smooth to run on a device like this. I was mostly impressed, and would think that most folks, if going in with realistic expectations, would be as well. The only drawback in my view is trying to find accessories that fit it.

Newer models over load
I am disappointed that this tablet constantly shuts down and has to reboot. I have tried all the usual things to keep this from happening to no avail. My older one from 3 years ago has no issues, same brand. Newer is not always better.

Fine system; not great battery life
This is a fine little tablet. It’s pretty easy to set up, and we got YouTube Kids going easily. The battery life is pretty short, so you’ll want to keep it plugged in when you aren’t using it – it lasts a few hours before needing a recharge. Depending on what you plan to do with it, it can work well.

A note on the RAM…
It’s not truly 8GB of RAM, it’s 4GB plus using storage to “expand” to 8GB (basically a swap file). They do go into some detail about that in the description, so I will give partial credit but having the short description say 8GB is a bit misleading, especially when having the expansion turned on removes access to 4GB of storage space (you can turn it off). I consider that a half star off.Build quality is shockingly good overall. Feels sturdy with a textured back (reminds me of an ASUS tablet I had a while back, and that’s a compliment).Screen is relatively low resolution… but that will help with overall responsiveness.Performance is fine. Scores circa 400 in 3dmark Wild Life.No bloatware, appears to be running bone stock android 13 (huzzah).Gets a little warm around the charging port when charging, not too hot to touch but noticeable. Not a negative, just a heads up.Overall, I’d call it a perfect “second screen” kind of tablet. Light duty casual games and general media consumption are the main use-cases where it’d be best suited. For the price, it’d make for a functional kid’s tablet (older than toddler but not needing heavy performance yet). Not a bad pick for the price, though the future of OS updates is probably not bright (if it gets any updates, I’ll try to update this review).

Only holds charge for about an hour. Only 9 time zones to choose from, canât use any others.
On the back of the box it says, âThe Android robot is reproduced or modified from work created and shared by Google and used according to terms described in the Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution License.âThis is a statement required by Google when anyone uses the Android open source material. Theyâre also supposed to include a statement before that says âAndroid is a trademark of Google LLCâ if they use the Creative Commons Robot and reference âAndroidâ or any of their other trademarked terms. They do use the Android Robot on the back of the box (itâs an older version from like 2013, but itâs still trademarked) and they reference Android (âAndroid 13â to state the OS) so not sure why it doesnât have the TM symbol near it and why they didnât include the trademark statement. So, Android is open sourced and can be used. BUT, it could be the same or could have been changed some and might not be the exact same as Android. I havenât used Android OS in a while, so Iâm not totally sure. It seems about the same with the same Google apps/services, but also seems lacking too (like with settings). It uses a version of Android 13.0, and currently the latest Android OS is 15.0, so this is a couple behind. This says that it has 4GB RAM but then also says itâs 8GB RAM, then says it is 4 + 4GB, up to 8GB Extended RAM. Itâs really 4GB RAM, but can be extended to 8GB.Settings shows that when mine arrived, it had 19% storage used, with 51.73 GB free.Itâs very lightweight. Seems like itâs made of plastic. I donât think the screen is glass, but not completely sure. But Iâd guess itâs not.The screen resolution is okay. Not great, but not bad. Screen sensitivity works well. It isnât overly sensitive. It responds nicely.Battery is not very good on this. It doesnât hold a charge long at all. Even doing something extremely basic, like reading a book offline on it, eats up the battery so fast! Itâs constantly dying and needing to be plugged in again. Just as I start getting into what Iâm reading, itâs dying. Watching a video and just getting into it, itâs dying. It gets really annoying! The most I got out of it ever was a little over an hour! Thatâs crazy! It would be fully charged, I wouldnât do anything but read offline, and it would be dead within the hour. And it gets pretty hot at the port when itâs charging.Thereâs a plug for headphones. When you first turn it on, it says âPowered by Androidâ along with the Android symbol.Set up is easy. It takes you through it – choosing language, connecting Wi-Fi, use location, allow scanning, device maintenance, accept Google Terms of Service, and select a pin (or skip this part) – and your device will be ready to go.I chose to toggle off âuse your location,â where you let apps and services use your deviceâs location. I also chose to toggle off âdevice maintenance,â which sends app usage data to Google and âinstall updates & appsâ to automatically download and install updates and apps from Google, your carrier, and your deviceâs manufacturer.â I chose to toggle them off since this technically isnât Google that made this. So not sure where that data is really going. Iâm not quite sure how it works. They made this Android OS using open source, but they could have changed the OS in any way. I donât know if the data actually goes to Google or what. This has all the Google apps/services on it – clock, Play Store, Gmail, Keep Notes, Contacts, Photos, Assistant, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, Chrome, Drive, Duo, Files, Find Device , Google, Google TV, Kids Space, Maps, Play Books, Safety, Settings, Sound Recorder, Videos, YouTube, YT Kids, and YT Music. Itâs odd because on the main screen showing everything, thereâs some duplicates. Not sure why?I went to try and set up my time zone. Since I didnât turn on âuse location,â I needed to set it manually. To do that, I had to toggle off âSet time automaticallyâ and go down and click on âTime Zone.â Problem was, for United States, it only showed 9 places, none of which were my time zone. There was a little search bar. But when I clicked on it and typed my time zone, it didnât show it as an option. I tried others as well, and none of them showed either. If I searched one of the 9 that were already shown, those would show up in the search results. But if you searched anything other than 1 of those 9, the search results would be zero. So apparently, you canât set any time zone except for those specific 9. Seems really weird to me.The cameras on this are horrible. So if you want a tablet with a good camera, this is not the one for you. It has a 2MP front camera and an 8MP rear camera. Even with great lighting, the 8MP rear camera takes horrible pictures!Comes sealed in plastic wrapper. Itâs in a nice outer product box. Itâs made in China. Itâs inside the outer product box nicely. Thereâs even a little square padded area on the inside of the lid that goes over the area where the tablet sat to give it extra protection, which I thought was a nice touch. Thereâs a âQuick Start Guideâ pamphlet included, but there isnât any more in-depth information included.Thereâs a charging cable and the wall adaptor.I measured and the screen is 10.1 inches diagonally (width is 8.5 inches in case thatâs of interest to anyone). The full iPad, when standing up and down (portrait), it is about 6.25 inches across, 9.5 inches tall, and 11 inches diagonally. So, thatâs means when itâs horizontal (sitting landscape) it is 9.5 inches across, about 6.25 inches tall, and 11 inches diagonally. The device works. Itâs very basic. I canât even get my time zone on the thing. Iâm a little uneasy about some random $80 tablet having access to my wi-fi and any data from the tablet, so Iâve been really careful not to input any of my info on it (no email address, name, phone number, etc.). But, that doesnât mean they still canât get access to data. The cameras on here are horrible, battery is horrible, port gets hot when charging, screen resolution isnât great, and itâs extremely basic. Itâs only $80 so I wasnât expecting much, but I expected a little moreâ¦like at least being able to have the correct time on the darn thing and it holding a charge for a couple hours. Itâs really lightweight, plastic. So doesnât seem the most durable. Iâm uneasy about where the data would be sent to from this. Not sure how that works. But, again, at $80, I didnât expect too much. If youâre looking for a very basic tablet to do very basic things like reading, watching videos, playing some minor apps that donât take much then this will be good for thatâ¦as long as you donât mind it doesnât hold a charge for more than an hour even doing the most basic, simple things. This could also work as a basic intro palette for a child – old enough for a tablet, but not old enough where you want to spend a ton of money on one. This is a good way to introduce them to tablets and taking care of one of their own to see if they can handle a more expensive one. I give it 2 stars. Itâs fine. But the battery is horrible and thatâs what is the worst thing to me. And the time zone thing was pretty annoying too.SPECS FROM PRODUCT BOX AND PAMPHLETModel: M10Android 1310.1â1280*800 IPSOcta Core4GB RAM + 64GB ROM (says 8GB RAM but then says 4 + 4GB, up to 8GB Extended RAM.
