The must-have guide for all artists who draw the human figure!
>In Morpho: Fat and Skin Folds, artist and teacher Michel Lauricella presents a unique approach to learning to draw the human body. The typical approach to teaching anatomy and the sketching of the human form most often focuses on the skeleton and musculature. What often goes ignored is the skin itself—how it moves and the expressions it creates as the body moves and changes positions. This book presents a simplified and practical vision of the fat and skin folds of the human body to help you in your drawing studies, encouraging both accuracy and a rich, diverse representation of the human form.
Geared toward artists of all levels—from beginners through professionals—this handy, pocket-sized book will help spark your imagination and creativity. Whether your interest is in figure drawing, fine arts, fashion design, game design, or creating comic book or manga art, you will find this helpful book filled with actionable insights.
(Publisher’s Note: This book features an “exposed” binding style. This is intentional, as it is designed to help the book lay flat as you draw.)

Este libro es muy util ya que la mayoria se enfoca en el estilo de cuerpo de super heroes o el estereotipo fit, por eso el tener una referencia de como dibujar gente promedio o con sobre peso es muy útil.

Since i am fairly anxiety-prone, i made sure to check all details and some reviews before purchasing. These are my observations as well as things i saw mentioned.
The size is small, maybe 7”x4”, and the spine has been glued oddly (i believe it’s a manufacturer design choice as opposed to a mistake). Those facts don’t really detract from the book, though i will say that the print inside is small, something i wish i could have known before. My copy also arrived slightly dented, but that was a delivery issue and since this is “paperback” i expect it to sustain some damage as i use it so it doesn’t worry me. Overall a neat book, will definitely use and might buy others in the series.

My bad for not checking the size, yes the whole series of books are tiny. young cat for reference. However, you probably need this book to study human figure. I say this because I have purchased: Proko’s online course, new master academy online courses, all Burne Hogarth’s books about human figure, head, anatomy, hands and feet, all of Bridgeman, Bammes’s complete guide to life drawing, Stanchfield’s drawn to life, Hale’s drawing lessons from great masters, annnnnnnnd I still see value in this book to make a purchase. Mainly because it gives numerus examples of how everything fit together, in action. With the sacrifice of wordy explanation, this series of books can provide many examples for study(meaning actually draw these, over and over again until they become yours). You can’t really learn anatomy in depth, this is not the book for that, everything else I mentioned above will probably help you with that(with the exception of Stanchfield).
All in all:
Not as mechanical as Bammes, but more structural than Bridgeman.
Not as stylized as Glenn Vilppu from NMA, not as gestural as Stanchfield, but clear enough to get you through the understanding of human figure before moving on to those more loose approach.
Bottom line is: no one book will be able to teach you everything, so be prepared to add many of them into your collection and these tiny books are worth the purchase.

As a Full Tenured Professor of Art, the “Morpho Anatomy for Artists” book, specifically the “Fat and Skin Folds”, is a quick reference book. It is visually impactful with anatomy of the human body. It offered cross-contour like forms to show the volume of the body. While it does not give a lot of wordy explanations, it does visually communicate the fullness of the body. I purchased this book to use in my classroom as a quick reference guide. It is lightweight and easy to access due to the smaller size. Full of drawings to problem solve quickly how to draw volume of anatomy. I highly recommend for upper level high school to college level sophomore.

I just received today it looks very good but my one real criticism is the 3 types of overweight people are not taken into account
I would prefer a section on plump, one on overweight, and one on obese
Thus to me makes more sense bc depending on how overweight someone is fat is going to appear differently
Hopefully in the future thus will be readdressed but other than this issue I think this will be a very good book

Formidable ouvrage de référence & travail pour l’esquisse rapide sur modèle vivant, presenté dans un format compact
Aussi, une rare référence sur ce sujet négligé qui est dessin du corps humain en surpoids.

Very small, but it’s one of the few resources I’ve found on drawing fat bodies. I recognize some of the images and wish there was credit given to the photos referenced, but other than that it’s nice to see.

A minha amiga tinha solicitado o livro e dei de presente.

I’ve been seeing this book get recommended every now and then in artist circles online and finally ended up buying it. No regrets! The explanations are brief, to the point, clear enough, easy to understand and remember. You quickly learn about all the fat placements in the body and how it works + skin folds. The book contains a lot of illustrations.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to draw body fat and skin folds better!

My teenage daughter was looking everywhere for references to paint, sketch, and sculpt plus size female bodies. She was using photos of Lizzo as a model for her sculpture until she found this book. She ended up asking in an art reddit and this little book was suggested to her. She absolutely loves this book and wants the rest of the books in the series. It is compact and light weight so it is easy to carry with her to school and elsewhere. It not only includes examples of plus size adults in many different poses, but it also has examples of seniors and chubby little babies.

If you’re expecting a verbose, technical explanation of how ya curves work— this ain’t the book. But if you learn by copying and observing, this is a perfect source of analytical, observational reference.

Excellent reference book for the artist wishing to understand the various forms of anatomy.
