Quiet unsatisfied with Amazon for the fiest time in five years. I ordered mine way back in June 2011and it was said to arrive in early August then they changed it to early September, at last they decided that I won’t get my book until late January of 2012! So i had to cancel my pre-order and got it some where else. Since this is a review on the book I will stop ranting about amazon. The book is identicle to the japanese one under the same name except it’s in english and about 50 dollar cheaper. One of the best art books out there. A must have for artists who want to design fantasy creatures.

Bonne chasse !

You don’t have to be a fan of Monster Hunter to enjoy this book. The artwork is great! The concept art is very detailed and there are explanations on the team’s creative process. The team members explain how they created the world and how every piece of armor and equipment comes from that world. There are sections on the monsters, the characters and their armor, the NPC’s, the Weaponry, Icons, Promotional Art, and Sketches.
Definitely pick it up if:
You’re a fan of the Monster Hunter Series.
You collect video game art books (this is one of the better ones and it’s 300 pages.)
You like cool monster designs (and you like things like D&D Monster Manuals).
You like cool armor / weapon designs.
You’re interested in the creative process that the pros in the film or game industry use.
You need Monster / Knight art references.
It’s Great!

I mostly bought the book for all the detailed illustrations ; so I’m SUPER PLEASED!
It includes illustrations for monsters, armors etc. of both what made it into the game and the sketches that just remained as ideas. It’s a bit of a shame that it doesn’t include some of the Z armors (at least I couldn’t find Khezu Z armor in there).
But all in all I love it! A great book and totally worth buying.

Although I was told 10 different release dates for this book, when it finally came I was not disappointed. The art is first class all the way, and you get to see the thought process that went into creating every aspect of the Monster Hunter games. It is a great reference for character and creature design, and I highly recommend it for any aspiring fantasy artists out there. Five stars all the way for this product.

Just received my copy of this absolutely awesome Game Development Art book, and I’m quite pleased with the visual quality and variety of the creature and character designs featured in this massive tome. Flipping through its pages should provide hours of enjoyment and many examples of how the talented artists went about the process of creating the world and fantastical inhabitants of the Capcom game “Monster Hunter” (which I have never seen nor played). While I really appreciate the opportunity of reading the text of this book originally published in Japanese, I have to agree with my fellow reviewer that the numerous spelling and editing errors detract some from what could have been a flawless experience. Highly recommended reference book for anybody interested in creating their own monster creatures and fantasy warriors despite its lack of proper proof-reading.

This is an art book, so all I can really say is I love the art in it. It has a few small interview sections with people that work on the series which gives some nice tidbits of information here and there, and there are some notes next to monsters and armor to give more insight into the design or what they planned to do with the monsters attacks/elements/whatever.
I’m addicted to MH and love art so this was a must buy once I realized it existed.I’m sure other players would enjoy it, or just people that like fantasy artwork in general.

the book arrived earlier than expected even with standard shipping which is great.
book arrived in great condition, no tears, folds or whatever else.
the content was superbly amazing!! with over 300+ pages i found myself amazed every page. i the arts are fantastic, and the way it was arranged and presented was well thought out.
you can jump to any part if your just after the art. from monsters, armors, weapons, and characters.
it was also great that they included stuff that wasn’t included in the game, shows what things they came up with while on the way to the world that is monster hunter.
overall i’m happy i purchased the book.

This is a gorgeous book and filled with tons of illustrations! One thing to note is that it is short but quite wide, as you see in the picture. But it’s gorgeous, filled with tons of concepts for buildings, towns, monsters, armor, weapons and icons!
As some reviews have said, there is different qualities of art in this book but that’s because they are from different games, different times, different artists. When you take art from Monster Hunter 1 up until Monster Hunter Portable (I believe that’s the newest one in the book) than you’re going to have different qualities.
Another bonus is interviews with some of the dev’s about choices in the game or processes such as hardest weapon to design and much more. This isn’t little comments in the margin but actual conversations. And it’s massive, there’s tons and tons of pages. If you love Monster Hunter, grab this right now, it’s easily worth the 45 bucks!

This is a huge, thick and heavy book. It has many illustrations in it. The book is split up into areas that cover various things, like weapons or armors or the village/town. There are many weapons and armors in this book!
The monsters are not plates like the cover. There are very few actual plates in the book. Instead, monsters are either drawn or shown without a background. Still, there are many monsters in this book! I did not see many boss monsters, tho. The monsters are really cool!
The armors are also cool. They do not list what monsters produce which armors/weapons, but then this is not a hint manual. The many armors are really cool as they show what is possible if you hunt well. There are tables in the back of the book which list the names of various armors and weapons.
Overall, this is a very cool illustrated book. There are literally thousands of pictures and drawings. Again, it is really big and heavy! I really enjoyed the pictures and illustrations in this book.
