This is an infuriating title. There are various versions of this book – as in close 5, with various cover pictures, many with various numbers of pages ranging from 192 to 700+, varying weights (sometimes weight and page length are at odds with each other) and difference listed authors across various editions. Why is this a problem? The version I ended up accidentally buying was a 192 page version not the 600+ or 700+ page version. Why? Because there is a 192 page version and a 600+ page version with the exact same picture on the cover that was listed as an edition under a 600+ page version. Turns out the words “Icons” written at the top of the cover far from the main title was not indicative of yet another cover design variation but a highly abridged version. Whilst the descriptions may be an Amazon problem, the vast number of variations in cover is a publisher problem making life unnecessarily complicated for a book that is primarily available used
As for the book itself – of what is reproduced, the pictures are crisp and clear, but expect a pocket sized edition in all dimensions – not just thickness.

Masterful!!!! The photos are excellent, and the accompanying text has finally explained what I couldn’t understand. I’d give it more stars if I could.

Beautiful, encyclopedic book with color photos (possibly used as a text in some college programs) about the evolution of style over hundreds of years. I have heard that there is a newer edition in a much smaller format, and the experience of looking at the illustrations is not as enjoyable on account of the size. I feel lucky to found this edition for sale.
