Fantastic read…what an amazing builder of decorative arts…I’m continually blown away by the work, and use this book constantly as both a reference and simple joy of viewing such an incredible library of brilliance!

This book actually deserves a 10 star rating because it very thoroughly covers the careers and major works of Abraham and David Roentgen, two incredibly talented furniture designer/makers who had the absolute luxury of working in a “price is no object” environment serving the European Royalty class. This book is actually the catalog for a significant show that is currently showing at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC and is probably the only time people will have the opportunty to see so much of this incredible furniture.
From the amazing marquetrie and beautiful gilt bronze metal work to the incredible mechanical movements this book is second only to having been able to see the furniture in person! Buy this book if youv’e ever been intrigued by Marquetrie, design, mechanical movements that seem to defy reality or secret compartments along with just looking at some downright beautiful creations that just happen to be very functional furniture.

Excellent book about the Roentgens. Was hoping for photos & descriptions of the mechanical workings.

I am interested in the technical assects of the moving parts and unfortunately this is covered in no detail just a couple of pages and simple meaning less diagrams in an appendix!

A wonderful book on admittedly a specialist subject; fascinating.
