I’ve been looking for a book like this for a while that really delves into the how and why of creating manga expressions. It’s a shame it’s only about a third of the book, but what is there is excellent.
My biggest gripe about the book is that in the section detailing how to draw the head from different angles, the female head is that of a kid, while the male head looks like a teenager. It comes off a bit weird, but is ultimately passable.

This is a perfect book for a beginner. Each part of the face and head is covered well. I love how they even included shading, head in different angles, showing age and gender difference, and how to draw using basic shapes.
I would love another book which shows a similar way of drawing the entire body. Love Tuttle books.
This is the best book for beginners. I am an artist, but I always had trouble understanding where to start from while drawing the manga faces. This book is clear and it is packed with enough information for me to get started. It shows simple methods to get the drawing right. Hope my review helps others. I have included a video of the book.

Very detailed. There are many study materials online these day but a comprehensive book like this is definitely worth it.

It has all the important parts of drawing a face, it also details how the realistic proportions are modified and changed to get the desired look. It has complete sections on structure, hair and emotions.

I may have self taught myself to draw manga for some time but this book helped me relearn a lot and improve fast.
It’s very comprehensive and well detailed. If you want a how-to book on drawing in manga/anime style I highly recommend this book or any books from Tuttle publishing since they are made from actual Japanese mangakas.
