…….since the only thing you can do with slabbed comics is oggle at the covers. I honestly did not think I would like this book. I got it primarily as a supplemental item to qualify for the free shipping on another order. As it turns out, this is a really nice collection of covers and I’m happy I got it. As with any “top 10”-like listing, there are bound to be disagreements, but for the most part I like the choices. In particular, I thought there was an overexposure of Jim Lee covers from the Hush run while completely overlooking the georgeous run of B&W from Paul Dini’s stint on Detective Comics. I can also think of nearly a dozen other Neal Adams covers that’s superior to Detective #400, which appears to have been chosen more for being a key book versus actually having a stand out cover.
In any event, this is one time where the the written content being so light did not bother me. This is not suppose to be a “good read”, but rather an appreciative tour of the cover art over the years.
Another reviewer mentioned the poor reproduction scans of many covers. I would agree with this. The quality is very poor for some and at best, fair for most. In some instances, it looks like some recoloring was done too. Not sure if this is a case of the publisher cheaping out or just simply doing the best they could do based on some technical limitations. Either way, it’s very noticable. This is really the only negative I would have to say about it. I’d give this a 3 1/2 star rating if I could, but gave it a full four only because I felt a 3 would have been too low. To the Batman collector, this is a great book for you. To the Batman reader, you might want to look else where.

This book is not art oriented. If it were, most of the covers displayed would have been left out. It’s a selection of covers that span Batman’s history and pinpoint some of the key moments in this character’s life.

Great gift for a Batman fan/comic book fan. Has full page art covers and short bios. Great coffee book. Does not require you to spend hours reading, but you can spend hours looking at the covers.

This is a very well presented, large hardback book – of high quality, with a dust-jacket. It’s a book full of images, all about Batman. These images are of various ‘covers’ from the many comic books and graphic novels written about Batman during the past 70+ years. These covers date from 1939 up until 2004. During this period, Batman has taken many forms – wearing several different costumes, and adopting various styles of appearance. And he’s got involved in an amazing number of adventures … the covers of the comics seek to depict Batman at his best, in as detailed a manner as possible. And the very best covers have been selected for inclusion here.
And so we get 240 pages of fantastic, glossy images. On flicking through the book, I recognised many incarnations of the Dark Knight … but many images were new to me. And so I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you’re a fan of Batman, I recommend it. There’s not a lot of reading involved. But it’s great to look at!

My brother is a Batman fanatic. In his late 20’s he loved this book. I looked through it myself not being half the fan as he and thought it was a very nice book. Good quality and cheapest i found it.
