I am so pleased I bought this book! It is very inspiring, and the author writes in a chatty, accessible way. I had messed around with apps, but basically didn’t know what it was I wanted to paint. This book really has got me started. It covers a LOT of ground, and I particularly loved the project on the cherry blossom, Van Gogh’s sunflowers, as well as the section on how to compose a painting.Some specifics on how to use the apps are covered by following the projects through – the tips are built in to each of the lessons, rather than in a separate section. For some of them, you can use your own preferred app if you want – which is great because this book won’t go out of date with each new app update. Most apps have tutorials built in anyway.There’s a bit of art history in here too, and some fun facts. The projects are creative and fresh, and are structured around classic skills and genres taught in art schools, so you will actually learn real art skills.Also, it’s one the best laid-out art books I’ve bought – each page is colorful and interesting. Overall, it really is a pleasure to read. I think it’s a excellent book for anyone who likes art, and wants to try iPad drawing and painting.

YES! Make Great Art on Your iPad.
This is a terrific book for those interested in making art on their iPad. It covers many different apps and techniques as well as giving background, history and therory of art. The lessons range from simple to more complex so the budding artist can grow with the experience. The lessons are well laid out, illustrated and easy to follow, one can easily see progress made. For those who like to share the digital art experience it’s a fantastic reference for both the teacher and student. Kudos to Alison Jardine for making this best and latest book on creating art on the iPad.

I gave it a 5 for being crafty choosing a beautiful cover to wheel buyers in to buy this piece of not containing nothing about making great art.Maybe the art in the book but you will not make anything great with this… NOT GREAT!It has Nothing to do with learning PROCREATEIt was a waste of money!DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO ADVANCE IN PROCREATE!The looks will fool you!And you wonder why people judge a book by its coverTHIS WHY!!! smdh!

so dass sich der Kontrast verliert. Für mich trotz Brille nicht lesbar. Daher habe ich mir das ebook gekauft. Hier ist alles gut lesbar, aber die Seiten wurden nicht 1 zu 1 übernommen, so dass z.B. einige Bilder auf 2 Seiten aufgeteilt zu sehen sind; den oberen Teil auf der rechten Seite, dann muss man umblättern, um den Rest des Bildes zu sehen.ALLES, diese Taschenbuchausgabe und das eBook sehr dilettantisch gemacht. Beides fliegt in den Papierkorb, eine Rückabwicklung ist mir nicht die Mühe wert.Horst Gutbrod, Bildender Künstler

I’ve noticed at least one popular review has remarked that Jardine’s book is no use unless you know how to use the software. Although I’ve only managed to wrestle my daughter’s copy for a quick flick before it vanished again before my very eyes, it looks to be based on Artrage – an excellent app available for iOS, Windows and MacOS so it covers a whole range of systems. However, you have to know how to use the software you bought first or it’s going to be pretty useless. Criticizing beginners guide to painting -and particularly one as accessible as this- because you haven’t figured out how to use the application is like criticizing the guy you just drove into because you haven’t learned how to drive.My daughter is 13 and a keen digital artist but wanted to know more about the greats (Monet, for example) and Jardine takes us through multiple styles gently, step by step in a format that even an old duffer like me can follow. Well, I could if i could get hold of the book long enough. That will teach me for not buying a second copy when I had the chance.Although based on Artrage (which is commercial and excellent value) my daughter has easily translated Alison’s descriptions direct into Krita which is free (as in beer) for Windows and Linux. Krita is a tough app to learn but since she’s mastered the basics, Alison’s observation and well-paced tutorials had her making art in a matter of minutes.Thanks Alison… I owe you a beer.Months later and I’m far better at art (and appreciating art than I ever was before). There’s something intimate about Alison’s book that explains the craft in way that us oldies can grasp.I guess that’s two beers now Alison – hopefully we’ll get to shake hands at some future event. Thank you again.
