Written before the remake of DS1, this book expertly breaks down challenges, successes and ultimate triumph that makes the Dead Space trilogy. Loaded with facts about the artists, production processes, and evolution of the series, I would urge any fan of the DS franchise to find a copy of this book.

This is an impressive book. Its hard cover with a dust jacket and weighs in at 192 pages and almost all of the art is color. Many of the pieces are full blown paintings. Most of the material in this book (about 45%) is concept art from Dead Space 3. While around 35% being from Dead Space 2, 15% from the first game and the rest from the graphical novel and spin off games.
There are sections on Isaac Clarke, other characters, weapons, suits, the USG Ishimura, vehicles, Unitologists, Necromorphs, the Blood Moon, The Sprawl, Culture , Tau Volantis and the Wrecked Flotilla and the graphic novel.
All of these sections are filled with commentary which is great. Having something to read in addition to the pictures always makes for a better, deeper and longer experience in an art book.
I do have complaints. They all stem from one general complaint: I wish there was more! What’s here is so amazing but there are some things missing. The other characters section only contains art from Dead Space 3. So no Nicole Brennan, Alex Stross, Hammond, Tiedemann or *spits* Kendra Daniels. There are a few suits missing from the second and third games. Some weapons are missing. I am sure this is because there is already an artbook for the previous two games and they didn’t want to reproduce too much content but both of those are quite hard to come by. I hope they do another book with more art from the other games.
The Necromorphs section is pretty thorough and cool beans. Slashers, wasters, stalkers, leapers, lurkers, The Snowbeast, The Tormentor, tripods, The Pack, alien necromorphs, The Nexus, crawlers, twitchers, exploders, Hunters (from 1 and 3), The Ubermorph, brutes and pukers are all present. Weirdly missing are Feeders from the new game. No bosses Proper from the first game are present. And no *sniff* Dividers. A great section though.
Something else of merit to note is how large the environment sections are. Some paintings span two pages. This is great as in a lot of video game art books the environment sections are small and the art is reduced to puny thumbnail size. This book really lets these beautiful pieces shine.
I love Dead Space. I love this book. I have already been through the new game three times in two weeks and I have been through this book twice as many times. This book is essential for fans of the series. Horror/sci fi enthusiasts would find joy in these pages also.

The Art of Dead Space is a superb art book that covers all three Dead Space games and includes art from the Dead Space comic. The one thing I’ve always liked about the publisher, Titan books, is that they include substantial paragraphs from the artists explaining why things were designed the way they were and why some ideas were scraped.
Everything you expect to see in a video game art book is here. Includes creature designs (every form of necromorph) locations (from the Aegis VII to Tau Volantis) weapons (Plasma Cutter, Flamethrower, etc.) in game advertisements (Peng) outfits and ships. Every piece of artwork just oozes detail. Pictures and text are printed on high quality glossy paper. One complaint I usually have with other video game art books is that some features, like locations or landscapes, are given more attention than others. However with The Art of Dead Space I can’t seem to find any faults. If you love these games or are just a fan of science fiction/horror then you need this book.

Others have said this book may not be worth it at full price, and I might agree that it’s a bit pricey… I own another Art Book which I won’t name and Dead Space so far is blowing this out of the water. It’s got very interesting, large scale photos of sketches and concepts – I am absolutely loving the explanation of their world design, suit design, and ship design. You get to read about Dead Space 1-3 and all the intricacies.

Right now at it’s current price of $17 this is a steal deal for any fan. I have enjoyed the series, played it over a dozen times collectively, and feel like reading through this book has really solidified the masterpiece that I’ve gotten to enjoy. It’s like holding that Golden Ticket that you’ve signed up for and taken the best space-horror video game ride the world had to offer. I’m going to treasure this book forever and I wish I could enjoy buying it again at this price again and again.

I have never played dead space, but I was curious about the artwork that went into it. After looking at this book, I am definitely going to remedy that. The presentation is just beautiful, the quality is perfect. If you’re into concept art at all, even of this game ain’t your bag- do yourself a favor and get this.

This book was a gift to my grandson. We lives in Japan. He studies computer design in the University of Arts and he wanted to win this book and he liked very much.

Very high quality. Incredible concept art, covering all the games and full of nice little surprises. This one is arguably the best dead space art book.
