So I preordered this book a while ago and upon arrival couldn’t be more disappointed. The front art is awesome and from what I read and saw online, it is just a good book. It comes with interviews and some art from each game in the series so far, SFI to SFV.

My problem, I was expecting a way bigger book; it is just around 250 pages and there is another book from UDON, “The Art of Street Fighter” which to my surprise is much better deal than this one because it is around 500 pages full of art from almost the whole series. Almost all the art in this book plus much more is available in “The Art of Street Fighter” for the same price and with a new revision that have hard cover now.

To makes things more disappointed, I got the book as if it were free, inside a box without any protection and damage to the spine. This one goes back to amazon for refund.

There are smudges on certain pages and on one particular page there is something stuck on the page. Might be some squash insect. Which left a stain on the page and it is visible on the other side and caused a dent on the opposite page.

Feel like that should not be the quality of a reputable publisher like Udon Entertainment. Either it’s not a genuine copy or I’m just unlucky. Either way I will always remember that little imperfection.

Lots of great artwork, but there are a good amount that are compressed in order for many to fit on one page. Kind of disappointing to see a great piece of art shrunken down so you can’t really see the details. Also, it’s lot more wordy then most of the Capcom art books….

One other note, I received the book with dented corners….Amazon really needs to be consistent with shipping heavier items with safety materials.

Finally translated, Street Fighter Memorial Archive: Beyond The World brings the 2018 book almost up-to-date in 2021 with art and information spanning the franchise’s complete history. Weighing in at 270 pages, it’s not the largest SF book UDON has issued, but the hardcover format and new images make it worthwhile for me.

This book first came out in Japan in the middle of Street Fighter V’s lifespan and the long delay bringing it to the west was worth the wait: this includes SFV’s roster updates through season 4 (a total of 40 characters which doesn’t include the 2021 fighters Dan, Rose, Akira, Oro or Luke) and it also expands the CFN profiles – over 30 pages of small bios spanning the series’ entire history. This includes expanded lore which contains Final Fight characters, related bios and obscure entries. All were available online, but having it together is a pretty awesome inclusion. This book contains the entries added after the Japanese publication.

While the book contains info on every mainline SF title, SFV is where the focus lies – clocking in at almost half the book’s entire page count. The first 50 pages are almost entirely dedicated to two-page spreads from SFV’s arcade-mode endings. This is fantastic stuff and of course contains some of the most notable SF artists. All gave some opinions on SF and its history as well, always a nice touch. Paper quality in this book is phenomenal and the lower page count means the binding feels rather good. I feel like this will last a while.

A majority of the remainder of the book goes through each mainline entry with a promotional piece of art and a full set of character art to follow. This isn’t for completionists: go to SF25 to get ALL the art, but this has some basic details about each entry & upgrade and it feels both comprehensive and concise. Even the EX games get some love – something that I always appreciate.

Littered amongst these entries are almost 40 pages of interviews of legendary SF icons like Bengus, Funamizu, Nakahira (manga) and both SFII creators Akiman & Nishitani. These are welcome translations which sometimes refer to lesser-known Japanese tropes, but this is one of the biggest troves of translations we’ve ever gotten (also refer to SF25 – an absolute Must Buy if you don’t have it already).

There’s a handful of other items strewn throughout, but the end product is an excellent entry into my SF book collection and one, while lacking that Fully Complete feeling, offers a vast overview of every major game entry. If you don’t have SF25 yet, I’d recommend that one before this, but I also feel this is a worthwhile purchase even if you do own the best SF artbook ever.

Kudos to another fantastic localization by UDON.

Fue para el regalo de un amigo, muy fan de la serie de videojuegos, y le encantó. Libro de ilustraciones de gran calidad y excelente relación acabado-páginas-precio. Muy contento, volvería a comprarlo (me quedé con ganas de uno para mí)
