As a general rule of thumb, if you want to get better at something you should own a book on it. If you are an artist who wants to get better at drawing stylized women, this is a great place to start. Drawing from live models is always good, but if you want a better understanding of the theories you’ll want to employ in your drawings. There are a lot of good books out there for just learning anatomy– my favorite is Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth, but that book mostly focuses on the herculean male form, with the female form being a bit of an afterthought. I’ve yet to find a true female equivalent to Mr. Hogarth’s book, but until I do, to me this is the next best thing. Whether you’re a novice or an intermediate in terms of skill, I’m pretty sure this book will probably be of considerable help to you. I recommend using this as a supplement to other educational books and tutorials for learning human anatomy and perspective, but even on it’s own it will give you a good overview of the basics.

Tom’s book Incredible Comic Book Women is a gem of knowledge in the “how to draw” genre of books. The female figure is perhaps one of the most challenging to draw and render properly but Tom shows you how to draw women with finesse, skill and confidence once you practice his instruction and technique. Tom provides great examples of do’s and don’ts. He covers a woman’s anatomy with good taste, with purposeful illustrations he himself has drawn and with with good bits of humor throughout the book.
If you are a beginner in drawing do not be intimidated with the content in the book because the only way you will become skillful is to practice, practice and keep practicing. Just follow Tom’s guidelines and instructions with commitment and you will get it. Also if you have not purchased his other book titled, “Incredible Comics” buy that that one too because he covers how to draw us guys.
Great book and this one will be a mainstay in my library for all time. I hope Tom comes out with new titles in the near future.

I had bought Incredible Comics with Tom Nguyen at a local bookstore and initially bought the book because it had a chapter that dealt with how to draw women, well when i found out he had another book out that dealt specifically with drawing the female anatomy, I had to have it! Toms books are easy to read and give valuable instruction on how to approach its subject matter. Incredible Comic Book Women absolutely put my drawings on another level. For years I struggled with drawing women, trying to maintain thier proportions, maintaining a correct anatomical manner and most importantly….MAKING THEM LOOK BEAUTIFUL ! After reading Toms book and following his instruction and tips, my drawings have improved immensley ! I have always wanted to be able to capture the beauty of the female body as well as some of my comic illustrating heroes, John Buscema, John Romita, and Jim Lee are a few who come immediatley to mind. With Toms help I am well on my way. I can draw good looking babes now and I enjoy doing it. Its almost like i found a new toy! Thanks Tom I hope you’re reading this because I am a satisfied customer!

Wasn’t as helpful as I’d hoped for. Outdated and old format.

Quand un artiste talentueux donne quelques uns de ses trucs, ça donne cette petite bible hyper pratique.

Women drawn the right way (as Tom Nguyen) can be a hard thing to do the right way. The author explains how it can be done. His step by step process is very interesting and could be easy to follow. One of the most important parts of the book is the proper way to start the drawing. This is the perfect book for the starting cartoonist.

I know Tom he’s a goofy guy he paints all the womens and draws them works for DC comics at a Inker had a Kickstarter project.
I’m sure he improved this this book has been printed. This is a good book it’s stylized but isn’t all Art stylized except photography unless it’s Photoshoped.

Great book, ive been drawing for a long time but still found a bunch of cool new tips. But would also prove very useful for someone new to drawing comic style.
Overall good book!

Von diesem Verlag (Impact) habe ich schon bessere Bücher im Regal. Etwas enttäuschend leider, vielleicht was für Anfänger im Zeichnen.

I agree, this is so far the most comprehensive how-to comic art book out there. This book has reverse some of the drawing steps I’ve been following for years. And instead gave me some new skillz. First off, in the book I get the impress Tom Nguyen is cool dude and one confident artist just by his writing. Second, he believes in starting with The Core first and not the Head. Wow. For me this is the first time I heard of this principle. And it works!
The book is full of information from head structure, the perspective, alittle talk about female anatomy, legs, hands and even lighting technique when using live models. Almost everything .He does have a step how to produce a comic book page. That’s cool. But he doesn’t too deep into how to ink or color.
So if you need some sweet trick to kick up your babe factor. Get this kick a++ book.

I have been searching for a book like this. I have tried other books and their work is just so over-stylized that it makes it very difficult to use or accept. I really enjoy your professional approach in introducing rough sketches vs many rendered images. It really adds a fresh understanding of art in general; thus, it is open to different genres and mediums. Amiable, the ideas in this book is open to sculpting, painting or photo editing. The many details of a head or figure can be easily lost in mid process while creating the overall structure in a piece of work. This book helps me highlights certain areas of the face and body – it is easy to forget the important parts of a human Deciding what is to be positive or negative space is often frusterating when shading; here there is quick reference to rejuvenate an ear, eye, nose etc. – in a more interesting perspective. I am looking forward to more works by you on this subject. It is not easy to find anything on this subject where the author identifies and shows the more stunning forms and views of the female figure.
