I love this book…I have it in paperback and in Kindle format…Mark Linley puts his readers at ease and immediately walks you through making beautiful artwork with seemingly little or no effort…I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves to draw or wants to learn.As an artist myself, I have gained a lot of insight into my work and in drawing in particular….Do yourself a favor and buy this book! 🙂

Als Wiedereinsteiger in das Zeichnen bin ich auf dieses ebook gestossen und bin begeistert. So locker und leicht es geschrieben ist, so motivierend ist dieses umfassende Lehrbuch. Absolut empfehlenswert, vor allem für Wiedereinsteiger (mit Englischkenntnissen…)

Luckily I had a copy also sent to myself when I ordered it for an artistically-minded great niece for Christmas because this book is NOT for kids, though it came up when I searched for children’s art books. It’s written for an adult and has nude sketches in the middle of the book – her mother would have freaked if her six year old daughter saw that, plus the child could not possibly have understood this book. It has drawings throughout that you are supposed to copy plus a few tips. I would not buy this book again. Disappointing but thankfully inexpensive.

No me malinterpreten, es un buen libro, bastante completo, pero muy antiguo y pasado de moda. Me acabo de fijar que la primera edición es de 1995, y las explicaciones de ilustración del libro comparadas con las modas de hoy en día, hacen que el libro se vea desfasado y anticuado. De haberlo sabido, no lo habría comprado. Pero me lo quedo, porque es un bonito “clásico”.
El formato tampoco es muy “ideal”. Es un libro de bolsillo normal y corriente, con muchísimo texto y realmente poca “práctica”.
Le doy 2 estrellas aunque no es que “no me guste”, sino que realmente no me es útil para la ilustración de hoy en día. No es que sea un mal libro, sino que está muy anticuado. No lo recomiendo para quienes realmente quieran hoy en día iniciarse en la ilustración y el saber dibujar. Hay otros mucho mejores.

I enjoyed this book for its step by step instructions, taking the reader thru many lesson on how shading and creating different textures, focusing on landscapes in the British backcountry. Mark Linley insn’t the best sketcher I’ve found by any means, but he did inspire me to try my hand at many landscapes, coming up with satisfactory likenesses by using a few simple shading tecniques.
That said, my favorite drawing book so far (and I’ve purchased several Kindle versions) is Keys to Drawing by Bert Dodson. Rather than focus on technique, Dodson explains how to draw what you “see”, rather than what you “know”. It makes all the difference in the world.

I find that this book is great for beginners. You can build your confidence and come out with satisfactory pictures.
