Presents a wave of designers who are applying architectural techniques to create innovative new furnishing options.
Furnitecture is a sourcebook exploring the furnishings, interior environments, and solutions for small spaces at the meeting point between design and architecture. The book features the work of a rising generation of designers across the globe who are starting to think about furniture in an architectural way, resulting in pieces that brilliantly transform interior spaces.
Boosted by digital design and new manufacturing possibilities, furniture design that morphs into “micro architecture” is one of the most innovative fields of design today. Surveyed here are hundreds of examples of these objects, including bookshelves that can dynamically divide and reshape a room, chairs that create intimate room-like enclosures, and self-contained, expandable kitchen cubes. From Chicago-based firm Bureau Spectacular’s “Briefcase house,” and Japanese architect Shigeru Ban’s moving boxes within rooms to Dutch designers Makkink & Bey’s conversational Ear Chairs and the French atelier 37.2’s series of self-standing cubes, Furnitecture opens the door to a world of design invention and innovation.
Presented in a compact, beautifully illustrated format, this volume will be an essential resource for designers and hip consumers everywhere. 400+ color illustrations

If you want inspiration for some wonderful built-in living ideas for predominantly contemporary living spaces, this is the equivalent of the old Sears Christmas catalogue Wish-book. If you are looking for ideas for contemporary furniture design, this may also be a go-to resource. If you wish to be inspired for some other reason, decide if this is the right piece at the right price for you. I got mine at a very reasonable price in very good used condition, and consider it a good investment for ideas.

This book delights me the concept of furniture. In this book, i got the clear concept of furniture in a different way. Architecture is a play of spaces which can be fulfilled by furniture. Images are good and short description helps to get the essence of the furnitures at a glance.

Happy to add to library but wish it was a little more in depth

Such a well curated book of pieces that blur the lines of furniture and micro architecture. Information and image layout is nice and easy to digest. Explores innovative ways of organizing space. Nice addition to my collection of design books.

Altamente recomendado. Contiene mucho en un formato muy sencillo, varios tipos de muebles y todos ellos de diseño, fáciles y muy creativos.

As what I consider to be a hard core industrial and interior designer and architect, I found this book useful and worth purchasing. I follow this stuff closely. It is substantially typical pictorial survey and “catalogue” of mostly 21st century interior “micro-architecture” and furniture. The authors categorization of the examples represented in the book into “types” is useful and what I would consider accurate. However, if your looking for scholarship, this is not the book for you.

A good book

Amazing book with great pictures accompanied with ample text. Also has quite a variety of furniture meets architecture. This is an interesting field and the book does well to capture it

The book is very small in size. I was expecting something double the size. Therefore, the photos were all small. It would have served this interesting book to be physically much larger.

i like it very much

I probably had unwarrantedly far too high expectations for this book, but it’s really no more than another poorly designed lookbook. Too many small photographs crammed into pages, that they even fail to reflect the purpose of the book, which is about “space”. Claustrophobic is the word. I would normally return a book like this, but it’s not worth the trouble.
