The React Native ecosystem is evolving fast. Get started on the right foot.

With such an active community and so many updates, it feels impossible to know what’s best and what’s just noise. We cover the latest React Native version and best practices so you can develop with confidence.

What You’ll Build

When you buy Fullstack React Native, you’re not buying just a book, but dozens of code examples. Every chapter in the book comes with a complete project that uses the concepts in the chapter and provides support for both iOS (including iPhone X screens) & Android.

Nope! We’ve written the book so that it can be used even if you aren’t familiar with React. Although, if you’d like to learn React in depth, checkout our other book Fullstack React

Do I have to know JavaScript?

Yes, we assume you know the basics of the language. But you don’t need to be completely up-to-date: we teach the latest language features in case you’re not familiar with them.

“Look Inside” shows the printed book in color (screen shots) but the book is in black-and-white. The book materials are excellent but my expectation was high because of the preview. Oh well…

The book is clearly written with practical examples but it doesn’t have an index (a list of alphabetized terms and where they occur in the book). So if I want to quickly reference something i.e. a flatlist I have to guess where it occurs in the book based on the glossary. The lack of an index makes this product incredibly difficult to use.

I purchased the online version of this book because of the excellent sample articles I read prior – and – because Devin (co-author) is an excellent developer in the React-Native space. The content is excellent and thorough. I wanted a physical copy of the book because I find it more useful to bookmark and highlight stuff on paper – and – I like having the best reference books on my bookshelf. DISCLAIMER : I was sent a free sample of the paper book for review.

When I buy a software development book, I expect more than your typical “click here, click there, press ok” tutorial-kind content. However, this is exactly what this book is. Lengthy, mostly pointless code listings, without good cohesion or deeper discussions. I am very sorry to say this, but this book is no worth neither the price nor your time. Save a tree, save yourself some disappointment, and keep looking for a different book…

Book has good example apps, and the explanations are good. Only three stars because it is dated material. From my experience most new development in React is moving to functions with hooks instead of class definitions. The authors promised updates that use hooks, but that has not materialized. Having the time tracker lesson refactored to use hooks would be awesome.

This is a very well-written book. It is written in an engaging way and draws the reader into learning React Native from the beginning. The book has very good coverage of the topic and just reading the first part that explains the React framework is very helpful. I haven’t seen React explained this well anywhere else.
