From the earliest engineers such as Archimedes and Hero of Alexandria, heroes of the Industrial Revolution like Eli Whitney and Alessandro Volta, and pioneers of the Modern Age with Henry Ford and Wernher von Braun, Engineers looks at more than eighty of the world’s greatest engineers — who they were, what they did, and how their projects shaped the course of human history.

The only book to feature engineers from every era of human history and all disciplines of engineering — from civil engineering to space flight — Engineers includes original drawings and specially commissioned photography to help illuminate the stories behind the great milestones of engineering.

From aqueducts to bridges, monuments to buildings, and engines to motion pictures, Engineers will appeal to readers of all ages who are interested in the power of the pioneering mind.

Good summary and details in the book. Diagrams illustrated. Exciting enough to intrigue a non engineer like me too.

My daughter first purchased this at Books-A-Million for WAY more than Amazon. When we got home I looked it up on Amazon and purchased it for my father who is a 90 yr old retired architect, and myself, and then my daughter purchased it also. The next day she returned the one she bought at Books-A-Million. WAY TO GO AMAZON!

I encountered Engineers in a discount book store and was surprised at the wonderful combination of interesting information about famous engineering achievements and even more interesting discussions about projects that are rarely discussed for their achievement and importance much less who made them possible. It provided so much knowledge and great pictures that I was sure it would excite anyone who was thinking about becoming and engineer as it would show them familiar things with information about them they had not heard and would show them great achievements from prior centuries of equal interest. Since then, I have bought dozens of copies since to give to engineers in our mentor program with the Eagle Scouts in our area and to give to individuals who were recommended to me by parents trying to find a way to counsel their kids about going into engineering. In every case of the latter, the kids decided to enroll in engineering or changed majors to engineering. A key element of the book is it addressing the international view rather than just an American perspective.

I admit, i’m a kid just starting off college doing basic classes and not engineering classes yet, but by looking through this book, i recommend it to anyone interested in engineering, and even history!

I saw this book at Barnes & Noble, and it was too expensive, but i got it here for a reasonable price and it arrived in very good shape.

Not only is the work of past engineers amazing, but also the times they have been through to do such work, like the Wright Brothers improving the airplane, Tesla and electricity, and etc.

Engineers book – this is a beautiful book, but pretty technical for the average person. It may be more of an adult book than a children’s book – Castle and Cathedral were more “kid friendly”

I have worked in the field of engineering for over 30 years and this book is a great inspiration. This book will appeal to those with decades of experience as well as younger folks who may be just entering the field or considering engineering as a career.

The book is arranged in a nice time line and also groups similar fields into categories such as bridge construction, automotive, aerospace, etc…..

I thoroughly enjoyed the history, explanations, background and graphics that accompany each engineers’ biography. You can spend a few minutes learning about a particular individual or spend many hours going through all the bios.

A must have book for all engineers and those interested in the history of technology.

This is an amazingly cool book. Huge pictures, in detail explanations, many different inventors and their designs… It makes a great gift, a cool coffee table addition or just something to look at when you’re bored. It’s marvelous in every possible understanding of the word. ALSO I went to barnes and nobles, it was 40 dollars…. I come on here, it’s 16.00 ….. Amazong, thank you for being you.
