The content of this book is wonderful. The artist goes through the details of how to create the word of fantasy clearly and in detail. It is a wonderful resource, not only for the ideas and sketches, but for where to gather ideas of your own. I love everything this Artist does. I bought 3 books in this series and love all 3, and may by the 4th book as well.

The step by step paint-along exercises in these are really, really useful for improving overall pieces and composition. It is definitely more useful for artists who are at least moderately experienced with watercolors and not all-out beginners but I can’t speak highly enough of how much I’ve gained from this book. I bought this and another book and there are duplicate chapters at the beginning for basic techniques but there’s a lot of unique information in each.

I bought all her books and just love the whole fantasy theme behind all her art. Great step by step in here of fantasy worlds like castles and magical standing stones to dreamy faerie tree houses and the amazing skies. My favorite one out of all her instructional watercolour books. Enjoy!

Wonderful! Stephanie’s newest installment in her series of watercolor books. Her introduction hit me close to home, saying that doing even a little drawing and imagining every day has a huge impact on the long-run. Small doodles and sketches are the first building blocks to making a complete picture. That statement alone continued to encourage me to create. She gives very clear instruction that’s easy to fallow. shows a lot of technique in a few of her wonderful masterpieces! The printing of the pages are so lush in color, I love reading this as well as her other books I’ve collected in-between painting sessions of which I do everyday. This one focuses on building landscapes. From painting rocks, trees, flowers, to painting entire scenes to help complete a masterpiece! It was especially helpful to me, considering I’ve mostly focused on the characters/creatures of the picture. But my biggest subject to work on is giving these guys a world to be seen with, so I feel it is complete. Very essential to advancing in painting and drawing in general. I’d highly recommend this book along with her previous releases! Even if you didn’t intend to practice watercolors with this book, If you’re into visual fantasy and some famous lore, it’s wonderful to read and stare at considering she gives a little story with her pieces.

By now I own all four books in the series – simply because I adore Ms Law’s art. “Fantasy Worlds” is quite a technical book, that is, there are lots of explanations on how to create different textures, as well as step-by-step demonstrations on how the artist created a specific work. As this book focuses on landscapes, it includes tips on how to do a starry sky, different types of tree bark, how to “build” castles, illumination, etc. Of course, even following Ms Law’s demonstrations as closely as possible will sadly not result in work as superb and flawlessly beautiful as hers, so if you purchase the book because you want to learn how to waterpaint (as a beginner), you will almost certainly be bitterly disappointed. She does describe basic techniques and how to choose materials, but this won’t help you be able to draw and compose pictures like she does. For an already accomplished artist there are lots of tips to be gleaned.
As regarding the book itself, this book is pleasingly well done – glossy smooth paper for covers and pages, brilliant colours, nice heft. (The “Myth & Magic” book, for example, has much thinner covers and pages, no gloss, not as brilliant, and feels much cheaper and somehow floppy and flabby)
So, buy this book if you’re interested in waterpainting and/or fantasy worlds – to look at, to find inspiration, to improve your technique.

This is an amazing book. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and the artist goes through such a lot of effort to explain each step. I thought that I’d just get this one book. Now I know that I won’t be happy until I get all of them.

The book is beautifully presented, and very well written. I love Stephanie Law’s art, and it is a privilege to be able to see into her world this way, and have her wonderful process laid out for us in a step-by-step way. I’ve always wanted to be able to use watercolors well, but have never been able to escape the muddy stage. The minute I opened this book, I knew I was in good hands. Am doing the exercises in order, and things are clearing up nicely. Law’s presentation is helping me make the big leap into pulling everything together, and getting things out there. And the fantasy art! So beautiful, and who knew I would be able to draw dragons like this!!!

I am in love with the content and illustrations in this book. Really inspiring, and easy to follow. However, the book had a lot of scratch marks on the cover which dimmed my delight. This has happened with many books I ordered from Amazon. Frayed edges, covers being too short, making the product look cheap and used. Please ensure proper packaging, and make sure you are giving your customers proper quality books, fitting the price tag and the authors. Thank you.

If you like the artist’s style this book is for you. There’s plenty of tutorials and information for the beginner. The walk-throughs are clear. Each book in the set repeats some of initial info about products, washes, and gradients. Lots to learn from and ideas to play with and try your hand in. Can be used for learning to draw, not just painting.
