Been trying out the lessons in the book for a few days now and loving it, so much so that I bought all the other books in the collection. Can’t wait for them all to arrive and create more Magical Worlds.

The media could not be loaded.

I had no idea this book would provide such a vast amount of tips, drawing tutorials and other ways you can add magic to your paintings – not just in the fantasy ones, but improve your artistic painting skills in general.

This book is like a new friend you didn’t know you needed, and I can’t recommend it enough! If you know Olivier Ledroit, this is a more “regal” style and approach in the land of faeries and otherworldly creatures, but so inspiring. I want more time to improve my drawing, improve my painting and whatever else this book offers!

I am usually a flower drawing/painting type of person, and the book has a huge section on how to let things in nature be inspiration for other creatures. Thus, it was a perfect addition in my library. The provided guides will definitely help you along the way in a general context.

Stephanie knows her medium(s) well, and she also recommend using e.g. an illustration board instead of just paper. I didn’t know about those but I will definitely be curious to try them.

I wish her other books weren’t so difficult to find at a decent price, but this book offers more than enough starting practise and examples to draw, from an artist that definitely knows her way around watercolors.

Note: if you are a beginner, I advise you to put this on your wishlist and wait till you have a bit more basic knowledge with painting and drawing. There is no pre-drawn images, so for the examples to work, you need to transfer the pictures or draw them yourself. Even with her guides, this is not always easy!

It’s not intended to teach watercolor to someone who has never taken an art class. I got this copy of the book for someone who has been playing with watercolors for some weeks and ink markers for some months, and who draws well in a different style. I’ve given away a couple of copies of this book, as it goes straight into the stretched-out-fairy style with rather a lot of very basic watercolor instruction and drawing technique for those days you might have slept through in art class.

Totally worth what I paid. I bought this mostly to get idea and extra tidbits here and there. I’m not a begginer, but not an expert in watercolors either. I found this book VERY good for anyone looking for techniques and step by step examples of how the artists paints (I can’t remember her name).

If you’re considering whether to buy this one or the “Watercolor fairies” book by David Riche, pick THIS ONE. It has everything the other one has and more. It’s better explained and written by the painter herself. David Riche just gathers examples of OTHER artists.

This book doesn’t only deal with backgrounds and dreamscapes, it also explains how to paint fairies and the creatures that live there.

I like this product for the high-quality pictures. I also like the way the book is organized. Tools are shown. Paper quality discussed. Originally, I found this in a store, but the book had been mangled by customers and I didn’t like the idea of paying more than the Amazon price for a product that was, in my mind, damaged. Word of caution: This book assumes you have some drawing ability already. Some instructions say: “Sketch the wings” or “Add detail to the [X]”. While various techniques are discussed, this is not a “How to draw” book. A person needs to have a rudimentary idea of the fundamentals of drawing in order to benefit from this book. 🙂

This book is absolutely fabulous, period. If you want to expand your drawing skills, learn to work magic with watercolor, or are simply a fan of Stephanie Law’s work; you need this book. I actually bought 2 copies, one to drool over and one to keep in case it falls apart (got one off the artists website, she’ll sign it for you!)
This book basically has 4 sections. The first is an intro to drawing, watercolors, and inspiration sources. The second is the faerie section. Here we learn about making foliage, the ‘glow effect’, will-o-wisps, wings, and a few other tasty tidbits. She also introduces the notion of composition in a painting to keep the painting interesting. The third section is the mermaid one (my favorite because I’m a mermaid freak 😉 and this section focuses on painting and drawing hair, pearls, cabchon jewels, and fun variations on fins. The final section is the angel one and here we see the ideas behind clothing, feathered wings, skin tones, marble effects, and the awesome stained glass effect. All three themed sections have notes on positioning the figures and their repective background elements. Also in each section, the artist introduces with a sampling of sketches (which I found quite charming throughout the book) then goes on to step by step instructions on several progressively larger paintings. She details each color she uses and her brush types and she photographs each step. She couldn’t walk you through any better if she were holding your hand. An asset for budding artists and a fun ‘behind the scenes’ look for Law fans. Even if you don’t plan to use it, its positively drool worthy to flip through.

I’ve been using this book as a reference for at least ten years now. Bought a new copy to give to a friend. It’s a beautiful book with some great tips on painting.

This book relates specifically to magical creatures, like fairies, mermaids, and so on. The art is beautiful and the instructions are so easy to follow. Everything is broken down into elements. So, you don’t only learn to paint a mermaid, but also her jewelry, underwater scenery, and so on.
That’s what really makes this book a winner. You can use the details outside of the fantasy world as well. I can’t wait to get started but I have to read the book from start to finish. That’ll take a while because it’s packed with information.
This is the second of the author’s books that I’ve bought and I was not disappointed. Two down, two to go and then I’ll have the full set.

This book has excellent deals on how to draw and other tips. This would be the best how to book we have gotten so far for our daughter.
