Good book. Needs more Kev Walker.
I’d bought this thinking it was going to be a book filled with Kev Walker’s works, which it is -for the most part. There are other artists that had made contributions for this book and those artists’ works combined would account for around half the book. So if you’re buying this thinking it’s a Kev Walker showcase, you might be a little disappointed. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy it.

I’ve read this book before when I was in junior high, I borrowed it from the schools art teacher and it’s just as good as I remember it to have been. The book talks about things most drawing books don’t bother getting into such as digital art and how to create your own drawings as opposed to copying someone else. It’s not strictly an ‘how to draw X, Y, or Z’ kind of book and I feel that it’s a great tool for younger individuals who want to improve their skills. It’s not the kind of book an artist with years of experience would need, though I do enjoy skimming the pages when I have episodes of artists block.
I got a used copy that came in perfect condition, so that makes me extra happy with my purchase!

If you’re looking for ideas on mythical creatures, this is a great book to use. It has a large variety of fanatasy beasts and animals ranging from earth, fire, and water elements. There are monsters from a good source of myths, folklore and literature. There are also beasts that have been depicted with a twist and don’t conform with the usual notions or ideas of what the creature looks like. Great tips and examples.
