We like the variety of different things to draw. It’s not just a book of animals or a book of cars; it’s many different things which will give the kids lots of different types of things to learn to draw.

I purchased this for my niece who is a teacher of young children and she went ape over it. The children love it. She teaches third graders now. I will purchase more books from this series. After all, it is nice to please one child but when one has the opportunity to please numerous children it is incumbent upon us all to do the right thing.

    Thanks very much

This book has a selection of drawings from the other Draw 50 books, so it’s a good introduction to the series. Some of the subjects work well in this format, such as the animals and faces, and others don’t, such as full figures and plants. There is no text or how to instructions with these books. It consists of 1 drawing per page, which shows the drawing being developed in ~6 steps. The animals and faces work well, because these drawings start with a layout of simple shapes to help establish proportions and alignment of the different structures within the drawing, and you add the details afterward, in a logical progression. The format doesn’t work well with some of the subjects because there is no layout, and you’re just copying someone else’s sketch. These left me thinking if I could draw from someone’s picture then I would just draw from a photo or looking at the object itself. These projects also seem more dated than the others. For example, the soldier in the book looks like a 1970s drawing of a Vietnam era soldier. In the end, I returned this book even though I rate it with 4 stars. I have been using books from the Draw Books series to learn how to draw, and I like them better. I have the Draw 3-D and Draw Cars books which are very good books. I may try this or another Draw 50 book in the future if I don’t find what I’m looking for in the other series.

I bought this for my 9 year-old granddaughter’s birthday, along with some nice charcoal pencils and a drawing pad. It shows, step-by-step how to begin drawing so many things! From animals, people, places, cartoon characters, and even aliens! She loves it and it helps her drawing. She’s pretty talented with her drawing and it helps give her some basics!

I bought this for my 11 year old but my 6 year old took right to drawing with these books. I was impressed with how well he was able to follow the steps so that his end product was recognizable as what it should be. My older child has not worked with the Draw 50 books yet but I plan to buy more for my 6 year old’s birthday.

Purchased for my Grandson that is interested in drawing. He LOVED it … which means Grammie loved it to! It was easy for him to follow and his drawings were absolutely amazing. He turned 10 on his birthday – for reference for child age. I will be looking to them for another book when he is finished with this one.

I must admit I thought this would be more in depth or better detailed, but I was disappointed..it is really a “Greatest Hits” of Lee Ames, although I highly recommend ANY and ALL of his works..he makes it very simple and easy to follow, but this book wasn’t any different than any of his other works. If you like to learn how to draw in this manner, and would like to break down things in a simplified approach…check out dragoart.com and select the “Tuts” tab…a very good place to start!

A fantastic informative book. Illustrations are great. A very good book for beginners. Also for the average artist. I can recommend this book.
