An Artist’s Field Guide to the World’s Great Dragons!

Creatures of great beauty and terrible ferocity, dragons have been featured and revered for centuries. Of the thousand-plus species still in existence, none have inspired more folklore and artistic awe than the eight species of Great Dragons. Within these pages, these fire-breathing monsters of legend – the rock stars of the dragon world – come to life through the work of artist and adventurer William O’Connor.

Not since the original Dracopedia has there been such a beautifully illustrated and meticulously researched guide on the subject, with special focus on the distinctive features of each species – from the broad horns of the Icelandic white dragon to the elaborate neck frills of the Ligurian gray. Based on the author’s expeditions to sanctuaries around the globe and consults with prominent regional experts, Dracopedia The Great Dragons presents never-before assembled facts and instruction to help you capture the heart-beating grandeur of these magnificent monsters. Inside, find everything you need to know to capture the essence of your favorite dragons through your artwork:

   • Learn about the habits, anatomy and natural history of 8 fierce and fantastic dragons
   • Each profile features sketches, drawings and start-to-finish creation of a stunning artwork, illustrating key concepts that apply to any medium
   • Discover special techniques for achieving dramatic lighting effects, powerful compositions and the incredible sculptural forms and textures of dragons
   • Includes a gallery of dragons and a foldout comparison poster

I am a huge dragon and fantasy fan and adore these books; I am shocked and saddened by the passing of William O. Connor and would recommend any and all of his works to any fantasy fan. These books feature beautiful illustrations, beautiful design, presentation, and overall feel and aesthetic. Highly recommend to dragon fans and book collectors who are looking for quality work.

    Compra 100% recomendada.

Absolutely beautiful art. I saw it In Barnes and Nobles and knew I had to own this book. The imagery includes interesting facts and backstories. It’s great for all ages to read and enjoy! I’m the proud owner if both volumes and the series even has a book on legendary beast If you’re interested in collecting all. All in all, the price may be a bit steep but it’s a great collection to any bookshelf or reference to any aspiring artist!

I picked up this book a few days ago and I’m really glad I did. It has been very helpful when I’m seeking ideas and inspiration for drawing realistic dragons. Besides showing digital paintings in various stages of completion, the book also presents background stories of each dragon which are very useful for creature creation. You must take into consideration your creature’s ‘story’; it’s possible evolution and the habitat it dwells in if you want to make it ‘real’ to the viewer’s eye. I just love how the author presented his drawing techniques in the form of a naturalist’s drawing journal and would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for advice on how to draw believable dragons.

It was a gift for a young artist, which was well received and thoroughly enjoyed. It brushes across digital graphic artistry and myths just enough to tantalise a growing mind

Wanted this book and “Dracopedia: A Guide to Drawing the Dragons of the World” for so long, and am jazzed that I now own both. This book is great, and is a terrific compliment to the above mentioned book. Because I bought this and the other one used, I was able to afford both. I have to say that “Dracopedia: A Guide to Drawing the Dragons of the World” is my favorite of the two, but this book compliments the other so well. If you have to choose between both, I’d recommend the guide to drawing the dragons of the world before I’d recommend this one. Still, I’m happy to have both and together they are among my favorite fantasy drawing books.

I now have all of the Dracopedia, I really love William O’Connor’s art. They are truly unique and creative! This book goes more step by step than dragons of the world and the bestiary, and it also goes into more artistic effects such as lighting and perspective! I love all the dragons and each have their own unique features.

William O’Connor is one of the greatest fantasy artists in the world, and the dracopedia books are a good proof of it.

Great reference for artist that wants to draw different types of dragons or to create their own! Beautiful illustrated pages as I can remember, and some tips. 🙂

Cons: Lost it to the abusive ex after he refuse to send my stuff back to me when I left him, so I don’t remember much about it now. 🙁 Been 3 years, but I highly recommended it to any young artist looking for inspiration to draw dragons of all regions!
