Gave it as a Christmas gift, and she loved it! I love the illustrations and how it is all made out to be so real. Something to pore over.

It’s a beautiful book with it’s own story universe, where the artist has made up dragon names, locations on earth, if the are an endangered species etc. It reads as if it is a science text book, similar to dinosaur encyclopedias on the market. While most of the art is in full color, there are some beautifully intricate pencil sketches in here too. However, I really wish the artist would have redone the Manta Sea Orc painting, because it sticks out like a sore thumb in this book (see pic). It’s just not the same quality of artwork and texture details as the rest of the paintings.

The print quality is very nice on quality glossy pages. The outside cover looks like it has a cloth binding strip on the side of the book – it does not, that’s just a brown print stripe. The cover is a glossy photo paper glued onto a cardboard piece, which sadly is not super strong because the corners of my book got crumpled during shipping. There are other areas that look like it won’t stand up to handling over time around the edges and bending areas, plus this type of cover is easy dented or scratched when shelving or setting something on it. It is stitch bound and at about 160 pages it otherwise feels substantial enough for making a good gift.

I like these types of books as an artist reference, to see different body type options for dragons. Someone who generally likes dragons will likely love this book as well, but maybe not specific dragon universe lovers (ie those who only love HTTYD movies) since this is it’s own made up world. I understand not all dragons have wings… but I couldn’t help being slightly disappointed that a good chunk of the book was wingless dragons (about a third maybe) that looked rather like… well… dinosaurs. That being said I also love dinosaurs, it just wasn’t quite what I initially expected. That said, the project is an admirable work of art as a whole.

I ordered this to make the free shipping requirement but I hadn’t expected it to be so beautifully illustrated! Each dragon is given a history, a quick size, habitat, and diet summary, and even a conservation status. Everything fits so perfectly into the historical timeline that combined with the beautiful illustrations for every dragon (Every single dragon is depicted, where some books only give you a sprinkle of illustration), it’s hard to believe it’s fiction! Definitely the perfect gift for a dragon or fantasy lover!

Cool book with great artwork. Wasn’t quite what I was expecting I thought it would have just details about different dragon types and it does but it kinda says where here at in current world map locations which isn’t a problem it’s cool, definitely helps inspire ideas for urban or modern fantasy sessions for DND

Firstly, respect to the author who passed away before the book was finished. I hope he’d appreciate that his work was finished after his passing.

Now, the book itself is wonderful, to put it simply. It is a sort of “what-if” in that “what if dragons were as common as ordinary animals” and showcases the dragons contained within with short blurbs and beautiful artist renderings of what these dragons might’ve looked like and where they might’ve lived. It also lists what their current “conservational status” might’ve been if they existed with several races being listed as extinct.

It’s great for inspiration in developing new species of animals or even dragons of your own, giving you a means of classifying different species or at least an idea of how to do so. As one who loves dragons in general, this is an excellent book to own, if for nothing else, than to promote your love for dragons.

Las ilustraciones son muy hermosas y bien hechas, abarca varios tipos de dragones aunque no todos, sin embargo me gusta que los presenten por zona, por tipo, anatomía, etc. Muy buen libro que todo amante del tema de dragones debe tener.

I bought this for a 7 year old dragon enthusiast and artist. He has asked to read about every dragon in the book and has spent a lot of time studying the photos and getting ideas for his next drawing. It’s been a big hit. It seems like it is a good book for a wide range of ages. It envisions a world where dragons are just another family of animals on earth and envisions how that would work while weaving in real human mythology and history along with biology and conservation. A creative idea and beautifully illustrated.
