I’ve really just started to get into arid landscaping and the collecting of agaves and aloes within the last 4 – 5 years, and it can take many moons to even begin to grasp all the information it takes to really understand this huge world of plant types and design techniques. After looking (first) and then reading the book from cover to cover, I felt I had got my hands on really the best book out there for showing me the big picture. Great examples of the many ways one can landscape with agaves and succulents and also how great these plants are in containers. I loved the book and it is really loaded with fabulous pics and suggestions on ways to improve your own paradise. I have been doing landscape design for 20 years and seen a lot of books but this one didn’t bore me for one second. Great job!

You will not be sorry if you love cactus and succulents as much as I do! The ideas are endless and pictures are awesome! I live in Escondido, CA. and the weather is perfect for these plants. People love my home and stop all the time to tell me how much they love the landscaping. My son (who happens to be a novice) designed my large front yard that was dead lawn for years and years. A little DG, cactus and succulents and don’t forget the tropical plants as well, such as palms and giant birds. There you have it! Have fun!

The author infuses this beautifully illustrated book with her personal and inspiring experience. If you aren’t already a succulent fan, this book is for you, as well as for the many of us who love the things for their beauty and character. Don’t want to replan a whole garden? Start with a pot garden, a miniature landscape or a wreath.
This is guaranteed to set your trowel fingers and green thumbs itching and send you off to a gardening centre near you. And if you’re not in a gardening mood, it’s a thing of beauty in itself.

I have dabbled in succulent gardening for several years with some success as well as more failures than I care to remember. I had purchased this book on a whim while sending gift books.Wow, what a wonderful tool for a gardener, the pictures were beautiful ,well labeled and easily imitated. The text (unlike many nice looking books) was practical and I have learned several useful techniques and the names of many succulents already growing in my garden .This book proved so useful that I ordered Baldwin’s other book Succulent Container Gardens and was equally pleased. I have been on a succulent shopping spree since getting these books but I have also increased my propagating and sharing. I put labels in both books because I value them and so do my gardening friends who have borrowed them.I rarely buy books for myself online and have never written a review but Baldwin’s books are well worth their cost.

Bought this as part of the three Debra Lee Baldwin books available on Amazon for my wife and she (and therefore I) is(am) thrilled. Each book stands on its own yet they each complement each other by expanding further into detail. These are great books if you are into are just learning succulent gardening and potting. My wife uses one for design ideas for pots. another for outdoor garden ideas and the third forsiding andlearning about the plants – including theirtolerances andhardiness andplant names. The books are all the highly recommended for succulent gardening.

These books are like candy to me… Winter is long here in my temporary northern home, and normally low-maintenance succulents don’t fare well indoors in January. But books like this one keep me hoping that one of these days I’ll be back in the sunny south, more concerned with tolerance for drought than freeze!
This one has LOTS of gorgeous pictures, which is what *I’m* looking for, and lots of tips and gardening info, which might be what *you* are looking for…
Add this to your garden library — I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Nicely written, illustrated, and very pertinent to my area. It deals with heights, textures, colors, and hardiness of most succulent varieties. I’ve already put some of her recommendations to use and very happy with the results.

Baldwin is THE authority on cacti and succulents. Beginning with her most basic book, “Succulents Simplified”, she culminates in “Designing with Succulents” with all the information needed to use succulents and cacti in the landscape, outdoor pots and wreaths, and indoor design, including vertical wall gardens. These are lovely plants with a lot of variety in color, shape, and texture and are so much fun to work with. From tiny to gigantic, for inside or out, for container gardening, and for all the climate zones, the author shows you the wide variety of ways to garden with these delightful and frequently unusual plants.
