Some simple ideas to use with students.

This was ok for some good techniques but found some of the paintings a bit gaudy and not to my taste but a useful book to have.

I love this book!! The author is, in addition to being a wonderful artist, an elementary school art teacher. I think this gives her a great perspective on how to create art. The reader is encouraged to create with simple instructions–maybe that’s how she teaches. I don’t know, but I’ve loved everything I’ve made using this book. It’s actually “girly” and very appealing–swirly dresses, sneakers, and mary janes. I adore the look–so fun!
Plus–she uses the coolest, most unusual materials! Besides crinolines, which one would expect with dress stencils, she uses liquid nails and rigid wrap. I’m definitely trying this out. Sue Pelletier is creative and cool. If you’re looking for a book on cutting paper and doing some cutesy painting, this is not a book for you. Do you like to look at materials in a new way? Do you want to learn a variety of techniques? Do you want to be treated like an adult artist? Buy this book!!

Not only did I get the kindle version of Sue’s book, I bought the hard copy also…. Love, love her work… One warning, you will get paint on your hands!!! Great fun art projects are ahead for me….. 😊😊

The techniques were interesting but not a variety of types of projects. And, it would have been good to include a list of each product used and possible locations for them. The more interesting part was finding alternative resources at places other than art stores– a great reminder. For those who use fabric art as their main focus, the artist does use fabric, but not as a major focus. I would give it a three star mainly for a limited number of TYPES of projects composed of different themes. Heavy on girl themes, houses, etc. (and I am a woman). I gave it a four as the information about technique was very good.

I first learned of Sue when I read the blog of a lady who had taken two classes with her. WOW, did I love the work and wished I could have been there. This book is the next best thing. Sue doesn’t waste time and try our patience by writing long paragraphs about the materials as though we are neophytes who just woke up yesterday not knowing what a paintbrush does. She jumps right in with fabulous ideas and techniques and examples that get you excited about the possibilities. Better yet, she does not present only art that someone with exceptional skill and long years of practice can achieve. These pieces are do-able by anyone and the results are fun and fantastic!
I have only read halfway through this book and already completed two pieces; just couldn’t wait! Thanks so much for the inspiration, Sue. I hope to take a class with you in “real life” soon.

Great read and super photos. Sue Pelletier is her own wonderful phenomenon. Such a great teacher! And I was delighted to find she had shared so many techniques. This book is a fantastic addition to anyone’s mixed media library.

Fun ideas using innovative products in some cases ( liquid nails for instance), low cost products, and loads of fun ! Ideas abound and how to steps make senses. Product lists are excellent. Making stuff is fun and Sue Pelletier’s book and video ( check it out) are great additions to a crafter’s library and idea departments. These ideas are great for adults and children.
