Finally! The world’s most incredible motorcycles are given the artful representation they deserve. Classic Motorcycles: The Art of Speed is a stunning visual encyclopedia of history’s best bikes.

The motorcycle should have disappeared when Henry Ford’s Model T usurped the motorcycle’s position as a primary form of utilitarian transportation. But a funny thing happened on the way to extinction — the motorcycle not only survived, but thrived.

Written by noted motorcycle author Patrick Hahn, Classic Motorcycles: The Art of Speed  presents the history of motorcycling as told through the most significant, iconic, classic motorcycles of all time, with both period photography and modern portrait photography.

All the best domestic and international makes are represented here, from BMWs, Indians, and Triumphs to Vincents, Ducatis, and Harley-Davidsons – the most classic models. You’ll drool over the 1933 Matchless Silver Hawk, and you’ll want to tear out the page displaying the 1956 Triumph Thunderbird and frame it.

Each motorcycle was shot in a studio setting using photographer Tom Loeser’s light-painting technique. Period ads and relevant historic photos and documents are spread throughout the book to supplement the portraits of the bikes, really evoking a sense of time and place. Prepare to be in awe of the undeniably classic motorcyclesClassic Motorcycles: The Art of Speed is offering. It’s the only motorcycle history you’ll need.

Well i ordered this book based on the many , many great reviews. High quality photography, check. High quality paper , check. You will see many , many bikes you’ve never seen or even heard of. I personally liked the several that were photographed unrestored. Your very , very favorite might not be in here i.e. Norton Manx. Get over it this is simply an extraordinarily fine book on racing motorcycles , as they say “ The Art of Speed “ it’s all that & much more . Order , enjoy !

Truly staggering photographs of some of the most incredible bikes ever made. Very well written and beautifully laid out. This is one of the very best vintage motorcycle books you will ever find – and I have many.

It’s up there with the very best – I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. I am in awe every time I open it.

Great bikes, photography very good, don’t let youngsters touch it as maybe the book is heavy and the paper pages might tear.

A beautiful book with gorgeous photo’s of rare, and also competition machines.
I have bought quality bike books for over 50 years and sometimes been disappointed, for various reasons, mostly photo quality.
But not here.. this is simply lovely.
    With one proviso..
There are no pictures, or an article on either the pre-war M30 racing 500 Norton, or the succeeding M30 Manx Norton of the post war period.
A strange aspect really, as in period, they were the most successful race bikes ever. And there are lots of restored models around.
A shame that.. it rather lowered my view of an otherwise lovely book. I wanted to award 4.75 stars but couldn’t.. 5 was too many, 4 not enough.
    4.75 then
