Fazit: KAUFEN!!!
Danielle Major –
I love using Chinese ink painting techniques as a start on my watercolor journey. I believe learning the basics this way as a start to using watercolor is extremely important and this book illustrates it beautifully.
Carol –
This beautiful book. I recommend. You will need Asian brushes for this.

An excellent book as advertised, received on time and in good condition.

Interessantes Buch, in dem der Künstler Einblicke in seine ganz eigenen Maltechniken gibt. Er mischt hier verschiedene Malstile/Techniken. Leute die sich mit Aquarellmalerei befassen werden begeistert sein.

I have lots of Chinese brush painting books. I love the pictures in this book and they are easy to fellow. I taught Chinese brush painting in the High School at night and used some of the subjects in this book as well as lessons that I took from Lian Zhen.

The book is clearly written and engaging– just enough history to understand the styles and pique your interest, with lovely photo tutorials demonstrating some basics. Good, clear discussion of the specifics of Chinese painting and materials (both quality and those intended for children or display) and methods — I’ve never understood much of this before, or specifically how it differed from Western watercolors.
The author encourages you to try what is demonstrated and discussed, shows his own fusion in practice in some gorgeous paintings. More, he encourages you to find and create your own fusion once you have enough grasp of techniques and styles to make new discoveries and follow your eye and heart. Lian Zhen emphasizes joy in creating, too — having fun and playing! I may never go all out and tackle the process of painting on and stretching Shuan, or rice paper, which has to be mounted on another sheet and stretched *after* painting — at least not on my own, as its fragility sounds a bit intimidating.
But I am loving and already using many of the concepts of composition, technique, different styles and emphasis, thinking over ideas of essence, depiction, and emphasis that feel new again. All in all, it is a truly beautiful book by a talented painter and teacher (that latter shows in the writing and layout–while other reviews mention his courses or workshops, I’ve never had the pleasure).

Beautiful book and delighted with service from seller. Arrived sooner than expected (from US to UK) and although described as ‘good condition’ only the dust cover showed slight wear, the book itself is perfect. As other books by Lian Quan Zhen, it is inspirational to leaf through and joy to read his own interpretation of East meets West using watercolour and inks so gloriously.
