Charles Addams was renowned for his depictions of love (or lack thereof) in his cartoons. The passion of Morticia and Gomez Addams, the lonely desires of Fester, the numerous grim and ghastly fights between husband and wife — all found their way into Addams’s signature drawings.
Addams’s concept of love was quite a bit different from the traditional idea of romance. Forget roses and chocolate, Addams will show you how to woo a mermaid or celebrate an anniversary on a desert island. Or how to keep your husband on a leash — literally. Learn what to do when your prince stays a frog, even after you’ve kissed him.

I purchased this book for my mother for Christmas. She introduced me to the deliciously dark world of Chas Addams when I was a child. Mom was thrilled to get this, and began reading it as soon as she removed the gift wrap, (the Chas Addams books that she has are falling apart). I think that anyone who can appreciate a darker sense of humor will enjoy this book, and I totally recommend it!

In a book of cartoons the most important aspect is to be able to clearly SEE the cartoons. Unfortunately, many of the images reproduced here are of low resolution, e.g the one on page 163, a previously unpublished cartoon which is very difficult to make out. I expected better of Simon and Schuster. The cartoons are great, and are the only reason the book gets even one star, but the printing and reproduction of them is markedly inferior. Don’t bother to buy this, spend the money on an older volume produced when such things were done much better.

The dpi/image quality of each illustration is horrible. Everything except for the front cover and one motif page on the inside are terribly pixelated. It looks like 4×4″ 75dpi images were scaled up to 8×6″ without any sort of smoothing or attempt at quality retention. The illustrations are fun and full of malice and dark humor, but the quality makes this extremely disappointing. It says that it is a Simon & Schuster book, they should be thoroughly embarassed by the amateurish quality of this print that looks like some computer illiterate person saved a bunch of low quality images off of google and then went to some online self publishing book vendor and had a book printed of all the low quality google image search files… This really shouldn’t be more than $3 USD with how badly it is printed. But I love Chaz Addams, so I’ll keep it since I hadn’t seen all of these. I hope I find these illustrations published somewhere in better quality.

Chas Addams ist speziell, aber gut und es werden wahrscheinlich nur Kenner oder Freunde seine Werke ein Buch mit seinen Cartoons bestellen, aber das Buch ist leider gruseliger als Addams.
Der Druck wird von Amazon Fulfilment erledigt und ist somit ein Selfpublishing-Druck, allerdings habe ich noch nie einen so schlechten Druck erlebt, zumindest nicht von einem professionellen verlag wie Simon & Schuster. Viele der Cartoons sind leider, wie von anderen schon beschrieben, stark verpixelt und bei einigen Cartoons kann man den Text kaum lesen, ohne den die Cartoons selbst keinen Sinn machen.
Das Buch geht leider zurück an Amazon.

I love Charles Addams’ work like nothing else, and this book has quite a bit of cartoons I’ve never seen before. Delightfully macabre work from the creator of the Addams Family.
The only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars is the printing quality of the book. I have no problem at all with “print on demand” books when it comes to novels, but for an art book the image quality is just sub-par. Sure, you’ll get the joke, but lots of tiny details are just lost in a mush of low resolution. Addams’ artwork was top-notch, but this collection just doesn’t do justice to it.

I love Charles Addams and ‘The Addams Family’, so I’m always keen to add another Addams book to my collection, but this one has been produced appallingly. I should have paid attention to the reviews that pointed out the terrible quality of the images, which are all faded. I don’t know how this book can even be sold in good conscience. Save your money on this one because you will definitely be disappointed.
