見ての通りカートゥーンの描き方の本です。
擬人化された動物やそのまま動物そのもの、デフォルメの強いディズニー的な小人や子供キャラ、そんな感じがほとんどです。イケメンや美女の描き方は一切載ってません。
とにかく動きのある絵・表情のある絵を描くのが下手糞で苦手で藁にも縋る思いで買いましたがそれに関しては完璧と言えるほど素晴らしいです。どうしたら勢いが出るのか、動きのある絵になるのか、力の伝わり方が見えるのか、どういう表情になるのか
とても素晴らしく分かり易いです。
もちろんすべて英語ですが絵だけでも説明が上手くて十分わかりますし、なんなら文章自体そんな難しい事はなくなんとなくわかります。
本来はたぶんアニメーション用の本ではありますが、イラストの教科書にも十分なります。
動物を描くのがヘタ、動きのある絵がヘタ、表情のある絵がヘタ、そんなことで悩んでいる人は一読の価値ありかと思います。もちろん絵柄や目指すものの方向性にもよりますが。

買ってから気がついたのですが、日本語訳版が『アニメーション・イラスト入門』というタイトルでマール社から出てます
表紙全く違うから気がつかなかった…
