The format and information in this book is great for browsing. I love all the information provided directly from people working in various aspects of Graphic Design. It really highlights the variety of work available and the differences between different specialties.

This book is very informative if you want to know about what successful graphic artists have done in the industry. This book is cover to cover interviews with successful graphic artists who have worked in the industry and have made their marks and become successful. It will not teach you how to do what they did and there is nothing technical in this book regarding graphics programs, however, if you are thinking of working in the graphic arts business as a full time career and you know nothing about it, this is a must read. Spend a couple of bucks on this book before you spend thousand learning to be a graphic artist and getting into a business that you know nothing about. This book is a must read for the aspiring professional graphic artist.

Well the book was received in a timely manner… it’s definitely something to read because you can then know the reason for the pages of cool pictures and artwork in it. Although, the visuals are helpful when it comes to examples of good projects I should be looking at and mirroring for my beginning graphic design classes. I think this book has a lot to do with the mainstream projects a beginning graphic designer may come across. It’s a lot of advice-giving from professional graphic artists, which is good.. Thanks for the neat, new page turner though 🙂

This might be a good book for someone who don’t have any design experience. I was looking for direction in how to begin as a novice with some training rather than starting from scratch. This book is for those who would say, “Hmm should I get into graphic design? Where do I start I no absoultely nothing?”. The description just wasn’t very helpful to me.

I’ve read through (and looked through) this book quite a few times, and each time I find something new. It has pretty much every sub-field in GD to sample the work of a professional in that career. The pages are eye-catching as well as eay-to-read. If you’re interested in purchasing a book to help you further explore GD as a career, or if you are trying to decide what kind of sub-field you’re looking for, this is the book for you!

If you’re learning design, this is a great way to start. It lays out the basics and has numerous interviews with current designers. It will help lead you toward a career in design if you pay attention to all their clues. It has many different examples of different design fields, so you can decide which one interests you most. The only thing I wasn’t impressed with was the color layout. For a design book, it should be more aesthetically pleasing, but it had only black, white, and green. I’m sure that’s to keep cost down though.

I chose this book as a main prop for my essay about graphic design for my writing class. It is really great book! Actually it describes all steps how to become a graphic designer: with which software you should be familiar, which skills you should have, which schools are good at this major. A pretty big part of the book is devoted to the career opportunities: props and cons of being a freelancer or salary paid designer, which companies are interested in qualified graphic designers and what should graphic designer expect after graduation. In the end, book tells a little bit about the future of this perspective major.
