The book has maybe 3 pages of text and the rest is lovely, high quality images. That’s a refreshing change of pace (most minecraft books I’ve seen have lengthy explanations for almost every single page). My main criticism would be that maybe they shouldn’t have used the shaders mod on ALL of the images as they start to blend together after a while, but the builds themselves are wonderful, the angles they were shot at are pleasing, and page after page of pictures instead of text made this a very worthwhile buy for me.

Finally a book to showcase a preview of the incredibly beautiful and breathtaking builds possible through Minecraft creative mode. This will be an inspiring gift to someone who is interested in exploring creative building with MC. This takes MC into a whole new realm of possibilities by a team of young, dynamic, multi-talented and gifted builders, artists and designers.

This 112-page hardcover features some of the most amazing creations to ever appear in Minecraft. I’ve seen some of them online but there are more conveniently curated in this book format.
The subject matter is split into different categories but the main ones would be fantasy worlds, creatures, sculptures and landscape. The creations are amazingly detailed. Some required several builders and billions of blocks to build. Each piece is a work of art, specially crafted and awe-inspiring even. I can only imagine looking at them from inside Minecraft.
Downside of the book is the use of gimmicky filters and depth of field when rendering. The filters create a colour cast over the pictures and it’s really unnecessary because the creations are awesome by themselves. I do not like the filter. The use of depth of field is questionable as some are tastily done but some are just using the blur to obscure details that would look better without the blur.
The size of the book is alright although because some creations are so detailed, I often wished that this book was much larger. There are selected pieces with zoomed in views though.
Overall, I think fans of Minecraft would love it. This book’s a good showcase that art can come in different form and media.

This book displays an amazing collection of Minecraft creations, all utilizing Minecraft blocks in inventive ways. Even if the reader is not familiar with the Minecraft video game, they will surely appreciate the imagination and exacting hours of design work that go into creating scultures that represent everything from pirate ships and battlecruisers to steampunk cities, temples and such architectural wonders as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Each full color Minecraft creation features information about the number of blocks, builders and days involved in completing the project. The Minecraft art depicted in these pages are definitely a testament to human imagination!

Surely you’ve heard of Minecraft. A game (actually a visual programming platform) that allows you to build structures on a computer screen with blocks that are reminiscent of Lego blocks with screen resolution that harkens back to the 1990s. But in spite of those “handicaps,” it is popular. Wikipedia lists it as the number one computer game all-time in terms of units sold. What is the draw?
Simplicity is a big factor. The user interface encourages exploration. While the game is appealing to adults, it can also be played by young children. I have six and nine year-old grandchildren, who will sit on the couch, not fight, and play the game unsupervised for hours. I know of no other activity that will engross them for long periods of time like Minecraft. The game rewards creativity, there is immediate feedback. It incentivizes creative risk taking, and if the results are not positive, the creation can be quickly remodeled or deleted, and work can begin anew.
Beautiful Minecraft is a series of short essays interspersed among many pictures of exquisite Minecraft creations. If you ever wondered what the limits of creativity are for Minecraft creations, this book will suggest that there are no limits, the only limit is your imagination.
Some have noted the “out of focus” look of parts of some of the pictures, I’m not sure if that look was due to the choice of textures by the artist or a defocusing that occurred in the production of the images for the book. There are also very sharp images in the book, so I don’t think the defocusing was a result of production glitches.
This book may be a source of inspiration for budding Minecraft artists and an introduction to others who’ve only wondered about it. It is more of introduction to the potential of the programming platform, those who’ve been working in the medium for years area most likely already aware of these creations and others like them. Recommended.

Incridible inspiration, that’s all I’ll say. Amazing. I’m speechless. Pictures are like wallpapers, renders are beautiful, this is a visual dream in a book. I love it.

All of my children play Minecraft often, although it took me a while to understand the different ways to enjoy the “game.” When they showed me some of their “Creative Mode,” I was wowed by just how creative they’d become. We’re all really loving this book. It’s a beautiful coffee table style book, with stunning and lovely Minecraft creations throughout. I love the statues, the breathtaking scenes, and literally wonderful locations. My kids have been thrilled, too, and are often brainstorming while browsing through the book together.
