Bought it described as New. But it clearly isn’t.

This text is thorough, covers the machine, its proper setup, troubleshooting, maintenance, safe technique and capabilities of the instrument . Some photos in this edition are a bit dark but everything topic is represented by a goodly number of helpful images.

This is “The Book” on bandsaws. I have a very old saw (Late 1930’s Walker Turner) which was giving me fits when resawing. With the tips and set up info in this book I can use the saw to cut 1/2 inch thick by 6 inch wide boards in 2 equal halfs eveytime. Befor I would have had one thick and one thin or the blade would have run out some where in the middle sometimes even destroying the blade. It has helped me get this old saw working better than I thought it could. The chapters on blade seltion and tracking / guide set up were worth the price. If you want to get the very best your saw and do or are thinking of getting a new saw read, No study this book.

This is an excellent book even if you have stood behind bandsaws for decades. Just packed with lots of good information..sure you might be familiar with some of it but I could almost assure you there are some tidbits and pockets of information that you may have never heard, considered or be familiar with.
A perfect blend of supportive images / graphics to go along with written explanations. Composed very well. Great authoriship

The king of bandsaw how to books. If you can get an old copy of this it is a great reference to have on your shelf

I purchased an inexpensive bandsaw several years ago and about the same time purchased this book. I had expected a bandsaw to be a fairly simple piece of equipment to use. I soon found otherwise and strongly suspected that I had wasted my money on the bandsaw. Much careful study of this book has shown me that I can do quite excellent work with my small bandsaw. Without this book I would probably not be using my saw. I have learned that a bandsaw is a quite complicated tool. I recommend this book for anyone using a bandsaw. Using this book will require much careful study, but the study will pay off in the excellent work you are able to accomplish with your bandsaw.

The best book on band saws out there. People think of the band saw as a no-brainer–just turn it on and start cutting, Yes you can do that, but a well tuned saw with a good blade you have a precision instrument and you can do what you never dreamed of. Incidentally you should give serious thought to purchasing a band saw before a table saw if you are new to serious woodworking.

Probably the best book I’ve seen on getting the best from your Bandsaw. If you have or are thinking of getting a Bandsaw then this book will prove invaluable.

The Amazon page for this book is rather misleading. Nowhere in the product title or description does it indicate this is a used book, plus the picture is of a new book. When you get to the details (if you were to even scroll down far enough to see it) you find the text added to the publisher name:
“Publisher : Union Square & Co.; First Thus Used edition (December 31, 1989)”
If you are using a mobile device (smart phone, tablet), it would be even easier to miss that this is a used book because of the compact layout when viewed on a mobile. The title should indicate up front this is a used book, and should list the condition of the book you are purchasing. The way it is written appears to be somewhat misleading. While it is technically accurate, important information should be made more apparent. Seeing other reviews, I am not the only one to miss that I was ordering a used book. The publisher information is also incorrect. From the title page of the book:
“Sterling Publishing Co., Inc. New York”
Not “Union Square & Co.” as the details section on the page says.
The 10-digit ISBN number does match between the description and the copyright information on the dedication page.
The book appears to be in ok condition, a bit worn around the edges, all pages appear to be intact on a quick glance through the book. it appears the Irondale Public Library (where this book came from, according to the stamp and the card pocket) put some sort of plastic on the front and back covers of the book (and not overly well – there is something like a hair trapped under the front cover, and the laminate extends above the cover edge). The pages are also dirty (at least the edges) and there are dirty fingerprints inside the back cover.
Once I actually read this book, I will update this review if necessary. For now, 3 stars: for the misleading description (-1) and the condition of the book (-1).

I have not had time to read this book yet but believe that it will prove useful, once my wood shop is in operation in early spring. I have an old Walker Turner saw which has been used very little and i’ll use this book to guide me through the tune-up process.

This is the most informative, and the best reading book on the set up and use of the bandsaw that I have ever seen. It is well worth searching out a copy. Big thank you to Steve Maskery for suggesting it in his complete bandsaw DVDs . Buying this used copy from America was cheap and issue free. Postage was similar to that expected for a uk inland postage.
