During Atari’s early tenure as the video game industry’s leading light, it oversaw seismic change in what was still a very young, still-evolving sector.

Not only was Atari’s VCS/2600 system the first piece of gaming equipment to truly dominate the living room, it also played host to some of the most iconic titles of all time, including Asteroids, Space Invaders, Pac-Man Defender, Joust, Pitfall!, River Raid and many, many more. Atari 2600/7800: a visual compendium aims to showcase the very best pixel art, cover art and product design on each system. Spread over 528 pages, it features over 200 classic games, with articles on the leading third-party developers, interviews with key figures in the industry and features on subjects such as cover art, prototypes and homebrew releases.

I ordered the paperback version and much to my surprise it came in a very nice dust jacket and hard decorated box. An absolute must have for any Atari fan, especially of the 2600 console and catalog.

The book covers many little inside stories about a lot of the most famous games, including the History of Atari and the VCS. I was very pleased with this 500+ color page book. I highly recommend it.

Over 500 pages of glossy color Atari nostalgia and triva, hardbound and enclosed in a heavy slip with full lenticular graphic of pixel art that moves depending on your angle. Lovely book.

If you are from the Atari generation or just have an interest in the Atari era, this is the ultimate compendium for it. Particularly impressed with the quality of the binding and display cover. Beautiful, full color spreads. This MIGHT be the only 5 star review I’ve ever given on Amazon.

I purchase this for my father who had the original Atari, he loved the imagery and facts. This is a great read and also some fun history on the games. Shipped quickly and no damage to the book.
