Buy this book only if you plan to make one of the projects. It is of little value otherwise. But if you are a woodworker and want to make one of the items, it’s very helpful. The size of the page allows the photos to be large and the dimensions on the plans to be easily read. The book is not so much inspirational as it is instructive. So if you are looking for help in making your bungalow genuine or trying to find just the right piece for a spot, this is not the book for you. At $27.99 for 158 pages, this softcover book is certainly on the pricey side. I would definitely buy it used. If it’s going to be in your shop while you work, you’ll degrade the quality any way.

I wish I had not purchased this book. I would not make any of the projects as I do not find any of them attractive.

Many of the projects in this book are based around mission style furniture designs. This is good as I feel they offer a simplicity in their form that even less experienced woodworkers would be able to gain a good understanding of how the projects are constructed (before spending too much time surveying plans).
All drawings are clear and each project comes with a bill of material which is great in reducing the time it takes to think about getting the required timber and materials ready to go into the workshop. Written step by step instructions are also included for those who are less experienced with woodworking and interpreting technical drawings.
All drawings are dimensioned using imperial measurements of inches although the bill of materials also includes metric values (mm).
As the metric values are straight conversions however it is recommended that you spend a little bit of time ensuring that the they do look more ‘sensible’ at times.
I have however given this only three stars as I do not think that this book will satisfy those woodworkers among us who relish more of a challenge. Having said that its not a bad buy.

This is a really good book to get your creative juices flowing. Lots of great ideas with easy to understand drawings and illustrations. Normally this style of book comes up short but not this time, it’s a winner.
