Good transaction – Comforting verses: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 KJV

I bought this book for my niece who was delighted with her birthday present. She is a very good artist and her teacher has recommended her to have this book.

I found this a good guide for certain images as i obviously got it for a specific reason, however i find that its one of these classic books that seems to skip stages, the majority that i’ve looked at there are 4 stages, it doesnt show you the inbetween of getting to these stages which is the bit i’m struggling with, but if you’re a more well rounded artist i’m very sure you’d enjoy this as it is a beautiful book.

I like this book a lot. Advanced drawing skills r taught very well. Step by step tutorials of faces and features. Unfortunately some of the book stops teaching cross hatching techniques. And goes to water graphite pencil art with brush and water based drawing pencils. Is prefer a whole book on portraits with cross hatching style. So luv it and a Lil disappointed too.

Giovanni Civardi is the consummate artist and I love his drawings. There is another book “Drawing, A Complete guide” and I realised after I bought “Drawing Portraits” that it is, in fact, one of the chapters in the main book. In fact all his chapters are sold as separate books, the difference being the separate books are A4 size, while the main volume is A5. This book consists of 64 pages but is an excellent book in its own right. Civardi demonstrates classic and unorthodox poses and the stages to achieve each. He also covers techniques, anatomy and proportion. The only problem with many books on “how to” is they’re not the greatest way to learn to draw but I tend to refer to them for ideas on shading, drawing hair, etc. and this book is extremely helpful.
