It has amazing drawings, doing the colors well. However, finding a good book and having to keep it with some misspelled word is a bit annoying… I haven’t finished reading it, but at the beginning of the second chapter I already found an error.

Very easy to understand for beginners and a great place to start! The visuals of the many examples and color pallets are a wonderful addition too! I now have this book on standby whenever I draw for reference.

Beautiful book. If you are looking for information on (theory) about how these colors all work together there is a ton of information here. This is a GREAT place to start, If you are looking for a lot of pictures and examples then this is it too. I was looking for a good base palette to start with and found one in about 2 minutes with this book. So it is good to learn theory and it is a great resource of examples. BUY IT.

This book has remarkably helped me with creating more lively and interesting pallets. I struggle a lot with keeping my works monochromatic mostly, but this book has shown me ways to be able to incorporate other colors in ways that aren’t too intimidating. There is also a lot in the book about how color can be used in communication. There’s an entire section dedicated to hair and eye colors for characters and the messages the colors get across which is really useful. Another great feature is that they provide the codes for the colors which allow for digital artists to have easy access to the exact pallets used.
All in all, amazing book

I have mostly great things to say about this product – after almost two years with it, I started to read and write and learn from it. While all things are mostly great, what I say negatively does not hinder the author, editor, or publisher as I LOVE the publisher so much – the quality of their publications is near perfection. This one book, though, being a writer myself, notice flaws – I say flaws rather than mistakes because mistakes can happen, and I do not want this to hinder the publisher, author, editor, or artist’s work… but I did find an error in the spelling which can easily be passed off as a typo or possibly even that the writer/editor first language is not that of English… 🙂 I will pass a photo in hopes that this gets viewed by that, I mean the reviews so it can be corrected for future sold copies because the product is BEAUTIFUL and should always be available to us as I have to about 30 said publishers books if that is not enough to say I’m sold on this publisher and their authors I don’t know what is …They have helped me in great lengths with my journey in learning to draw, but to go on to digital tools even more. Extremely impressed. The flaw is in the word explained; it is missing the P – I can’t see this being intentional, but who knows? Lol—bottom of page 14. Please see the screenshot with the word circled. GREAT WORK, nevertheless.

This book is packed with ALOT of information regarding color theory and how to choose your colors for your own projects. I should say here that this book IS NOT a how to book in terms of how to use a digital art program and such. It’s more of a reference book to refer back too if you need assistance on colors, hues, tints, saturation, etc. Even if you don’t draw anime or manga specifically, the contents in this book can apply to any project regardless of how you draw. I HIGHLY recommend this book if your wanting to learn how to effectively color and make your pieces pop!

Normalmente es difícil encontrar libros bien hechos cuando se trata de temas como la enseñanza sobre manga y anime, pero este es un libro que realmente vale la pena. Excelentes ilustraciones, muy buenas recomendaciones.

I anticipated the arrival of this book for several months and it doesn’t disappoint. It’s a great guide to selecting the best colors for anime and manga illustration. At first I thought it was going to give me tips on how to actually lay down color/line art tips but it’s only a guide to understanding color for anime and manga illustrations. I’m still happy with this book though. A good addition to my library.

I really want to give these 5 stars, because it is by far the single most detailed and best written book on color theory I’ve ever seen. But that’s the problem, there is nothing in her on actually coloring manga. If it was just titled “Color theory for manga coloring” or something similar, five stars out of five.
It’s missing at least one chapter, possibly two. One on the really boring parts of coloring pages which is what I was hunting for. Setting up a document properly, maybe a technique adding a ton of contrast to an image to separate the blacks from the whites and separating them so you can color behind the inks, how to properly color behind the inks for printing and all that other stuff.
A chapter on coloring techniques would also be amazing, with step-by-step examples and tips(Just color the flats to start, etc), plus some exercises and warmups. There were a few spots in the book where this was discussed, like using a soft brush versus a hard brush. I didn’t see any mention on using color gradients effectively or on adding highlights or shadows though.
If you wanted to go above and beyond then maybe a chapter on adding textures or effects with different types of brushes?
So yeah. If you guys wrote a second edition with these two chapters added I’d give it 6 stars out of 5. And no, that wasn’t a typo.
