Stupendo.

If you read the text that’s really gets into the nitty-gritty of why a lot of the art decisions were made and how they went through that process. Well I’ve seen a lot of these animes not really a big fan of anime in general but this is making me really appreciate the artwork behind it and wants to study it more.

Great for genre fans or as an art reference/inspirational resource. If you’ve found this book, it probably appeals to your specific interest and is worth the price of admission.

Beautiful book and well researched. My only complaint would be the same as a few others have mentioned, the size of the book could stand to be bigger. The details of these backgrounds deserve a larger format. But with that said the book is a great purchase, well done.

While I’ve never seen any of these animes, I was intrigued of the book because some artists I follow on Twitter recommended it and landscape/cityscape was never something I was good at drawing. In reading this book and looking at the photos, it gave me a new perspective on how I can frame my scenes and use my own photography as practice for drawing. A lot of these images, were shot on 35mm film and I shoot on film, so in reading this book, I learned how I could utilize my own photos the same way the creators used theirs to create their fictional world. Even the most simple of things, like a electric meter, can give the creators inspiration which was beyond me. Definitely recommend and love how it’s not text heavy.

IMPORTANT: I was able to buy this book here on January 31st, 2021 even though it has not been available since early December. I had signed up to receive a notification when the product is available but I never received one. I checked the product page periodically and on 01-31-21 I saw that copies had been made available. Without hesitation I purchased a copy and at that time there were 15 copies still available. Less than 10 minutes later, all of the available copies were sold. The moral of the story is, keep checking the product page.
-I’m very happy that recently several books, in English, have been published highlighting what is often the unsung hero of animation, background artwork. The author puts his focus on the near future, often dystopian, metropolis backgrounds, which I personally find to be more beautiful than those produced by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli (I know, it’s sacrilegious to say however, I do still love Miyazaki’s works).
This book is a must have for any fan of Anime and animation in general. Beautifully put together and beautifully researched. I’m very, very happy to have this in my collection.

The print, thr contents, the book material all is absolutely upto the mark, but the cover was witha slight torn. Of course that doesn’t take away from the product but something that should be noted by the seller.
