The Anatomy Drawing School―Animal anatomy recognizes the prominent role of the anatomy for the fine arts. The impressively detailed illustrations of the Hungarian master András Szunyoghy have accompanied artists as well as anatomists all over the world for more than a decade. This edition is intended to make Szunyoghy’s work accessible for an even broader public.

I didn’t like this book at all. It lacks any organization, just illustration after illustration with the half of the book devoted to horses. Terrible buy. i give it 2 stars because the quality of the illustrations is not bad (though not particulary good either), if not i would give you one star.

I already had 7 anatomy books before ordering this one. This is by far the most alive, and most reflects how the muscles feel under my hands. The origins and insertions are super accurate, outstanding for the fine details I sometimes look for and superb for explaining and illustrating a muscle to a client. It’s light, portable, and inexpensive. In addition, one of the few that is not a veterinary text to include more than one species, perfect, as I work with small and large animals. The only criticisms I have are that only the superficial muscles are illustrated, and the names of the muscles, no function, origin or insertion. But for the price, quality and clarity of illustration and portability – fits easily into my gig bag, nice and light, easy to pull out for clients, this book is a delight and super easy on the wallet for anyone interested in animal anatomy.

Everything from purchase to delivery exceeded my expectations. I purchased this for my wife who is a therapeutic farrier and artist, so this book is 100% her favorite birthday gift. She immediately opened the book, commented on the amazing detail and bookmarked several pages. I would highly recommend this book for artists wanting more detail of animal anatomy.

This book includes brief descriptions on the anatomy of a few mammals(Horse, Dog, Cat, Pig, Cow) with many detailed supporting illustrations.
It is great piece to have as reference material but lacks the detail for me to recommend it wholeheartedly as a teaching/learning tool.

After a trip to the natural history museum in New York, I came home looking for better anatomy references for drawing. I had kept craning my neck trying to figure out how some of the joints worked and the ranges of motion.
I was pleased to find this book (and the mate, Animal Anatomy) on the shelf at my local bookstore. I’ve looked at several anatomy books for artists but none of them have felt as complete as these. The information is laid out in a straight forward and terse manner with verbal and pictorial explanations of joint movements and muscle behaviors of a body in motion.
Really excellent books, though I can think of two major complaints I have about the Animal Anatomy books.
First, I’d more properly like to see it titled, “Mammal Anatomy” (perhaps in hopes that they might one day publish a book of similar quality for reptiles and amphibians or avians)
Second: The book really should have included a bear. I’d really be interested in seeing how the plantigrade quadruped mammal’s legs varied from the digitigrade species. A brachiating species might also have been interesting but I realize there’s only so much room in a single given text.
For the nitpicks: Small font. Not really bad but sometimes makes finding the text part of the information a little inconvenient.
On the whole, these are excellent books for the artist, vastly superior to any other art-anatomy book I’ve found and I strongly recommend them.

I got this book to use in my studio, and am delighted with it. The illustrations are very clear and detailed. My animal paintings are improving greatly now that I have this book to study. If you are interested in drawing animals, I highly recommend that you buy this book.

If anatomical drawings is what you are looking for, this is a good, solid book. It’s more about observing and copying rather than ‘how to’.

Great book, superb illustrations, the only con that i can remember is that it doesn`t have some explanation about the numbers that are written on the side of some muscles` names (usually in parenthesis) I don`t have any idea what those numbers means. A friend of mine told me that the combined version of the human and animal have some extra drawings comparing the two, but i thing that this smaller size is more practical.
Btw, it took me 21 days to receive this book in Brazil.

Avere a disposizione diverse fonti di documentazione per i miei disegni è un dovere professionale. Questo libro pur non essendo eccelso offre una serie di spunti utili.

This was a gift for my daughter who is a fourth year art student.
She absolutely loved it! She said it was a great help in her studies of sketching the animal anatomy.
