Es un libro algo general, que muestra las aves de Norteamérica para personas que no son ornitólogos profesionales. En algunas especies no están ilustradas todas las formas sexuales o edades.

I have a plethora of bird guides, encyclopedia and other books. I’ve always been fascinated by them, and this book is actually a republish of one that I got as a kid ages ago. Updated a bit though, but the same basic idea. Each bird gets their own page and you get a bunch of info on them. I enjoy books like this and it works great as a coffee table book. Though, it doesn’t really offer anything that every other North American bird encyclopedia doesn’t, but its a solid encyclopedia.

Like all DK books, Birds of North America is beautifully illustrated. Each bird is given a full page with annotated large photo and small pictures of the bird in flight, and in it’s habitat. There is accompanying text description of voice, nesting and feeding habits and a map showing the area it frequents. The book is organized by species of bird. There is an introductory section on avian evolution , anatomy and flight, migration, mating, nests and eggs and identifying features. This is a large book: 9”X11” and 2” thick. It weighs 4.5 lb. The printing is clear. There is a glossary and index.

First things first – this book is BIG! And by big, I mean physically large and also very heavy. I think it’s over 700 pages. And the paper is thick. It’s very well made. That being said, this is surely not something you’ll take with you in a trip or for a hike. But this is perfect to stay stationary at my window seat, so that I can quickly identify birds as they arrive at my feeder. This book is also beautiful, and comprehensive. It even breaks down what other similar birds you may mistake for the one you’re looking at. The pictures are beautiful, most birds show the male and female, some the juveniles as well. It even shows flying style! And it came with a code for an app which lets you hear all of the birds’ songs. I got this to help my two young homeschooled children learn more about birds, but it’s been a joy for all of us. Even my long-time bird loving mother said its the best bird book she’s ever seen!

It’s a great book. I’ve got a couple different books on birds of NA, and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint. You won’t be taking it with you on hikes as it’s pretty hefty, but it is a great book to have back at home for when you want to look up and do some research on whatever birds you spot. There’s also a few pages on different bird related topics like migration patterns, and bird anatomy. Every bird gets their own page as well with detailed images, and each with an image of them in flight. Some books don’t always add a photo of the birds in flight, which is a useful point of view as there are feather patterns and colors that can be hidden when the bird has their wings closed. Again, it’s a great book with some awesome detail. I’d recommend the purchase if it’s a bird book you’re looking for
